Wasn't Who'll Stopthe Rain watchable?
Hi Jevs.

Hey, Jeff(s)! Hi, listeners.

@Jeff G.: I'm still laughing at that discussion about how many days there are in the week by two bodybuilders that you've posted last week
Avatar 12:12pm
Jeff J:

Shaun - Who'll Stop the Rain is *watchable* but it's a pale shadow of the technicolor majesty of "Dog Soldiers."
Avatar 12:15pm
Jeff J:

Hey Artie! And welcome Doca!

@Jeff J: This wasn't released before?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Jeff Golick:

@doca: A timeless classic. About time.

BEHOLD our first hyperlinked album title on the playlist! Many thanks for GTDR dj Charlie Lewis for walking us through the technological hurdles, as he welcomed us to 1998!

Not to our knowledge -- or according to the press release....

Hey y'all! St. Louis in the house. Listening with earbuds at work. Whole atmosphere of office just changed dramatically. I can make it.

Welcome, @Allsoul! In St. Louis -- recognizing No Borders!

@Jeff J: Great recording. But those FMP-like album covers tricked me on this one.

Aha, @Dean. Thanks!
Wouldn't want anyone leaving the playlist, now, would we.
Try now?

Ashamed to say Dog Soldiers is the only Stone I've read. What should be my next?

Howdy, @tr/sh! Bilge the anchor! Jib the spinnaker!
Avatar 12:27pm
Jeff J:

@Shaun - I'd say "Children of Light," his Hollywood novel. Much maligned at the time, but Stone's favorite of his own work. You also can't go wrong with "A Flag for Sunrise" his Central American book.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm
Jeff Golick:

I'll read CHILDREN OF LIGHT with you, @Shaun. Book group! (Can also recommend FLAG FOR SUNRISE.)

Been in since about noon but been filling out condolence cards and a cover letter for some sympathy cookies; friend lost her dad over the weekend. Happy to have smooth tunes and all of you this suitably gloomy New Jersey Monday.

Thanks Jeff & Jeff. I have some practice from 2013 (nasty year in my circle, lost 3 moms, incl. my own and that of the deceased's son-in-law), but it's never easy. A still-young 66 and took fatally ill in the middle of the night.

Hello Jeffs 'n folks.

Robert Stone passing. I remember Dog Soldiers and A Flag for Sunrise from half a lifetime ago. Good reads as I recall.

For some reason I have been yearning to re-read The Lost Steps by Alejo Carpentier.
Avatar 1:09pm
Jeff J:

@Rich - Thanks! This set snuck out last year, released via Bandcamp.

@Brian in the UK - hey! Just recently read Carpentier's The Kingdom of This World which I loved. Need to get back to The Lost Steps.

Brian in UK:

Dylan is a big fan of Harry Smith's Anthology of Folk Music. He just made his own version up in Woodstock unwittingly.
Avatar 1:16pm
Jeff J:

@Brian - Definitely on the Harry Smith connection, though hard to say how unwitting anything is with Dylan! The newly found 30 tracks recast the Basement Tapes in yet another light. So much to digest.

Apologies for the rough segues here, most songs end (and sometimes start) pretty unceremoniously...

Sounds great. Great listening.
What segue?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm
Jeff Golick:

Just some rough starts and stops on the tape, is all.

Brian in UK:

With The Band there, your palette has all the colours you need.

Jeff G bit like later Monet paintings, after he had got the effect he did not always paint to the borders, why bother. Rough edges. Job done.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm
Jeff Golick:

Agreed, Brian. Was thinking that's all a producer need worry about, the starts and stops, making them smooth.

I mistyped a playlist for this show as the bastement tapes, and rather like that spoonerism.
  1:39pm
tr/sh:

Hey, that was one of my intro dj talkover tracks.
Or, get lost listening and often forget to talk bed music.
Talk or listen. Fish or cut bait.

@Northguineahills - You're welcome! There's so much weird and fascinating stuff on here. It'll take a while to process it all.

This song turned up again as Romance in Durango.

Dean:

Sounds like he's reading the lyrics off a Taco Bell menu.
Avatar 2:02pm
Jeff J:

@Dean - While on laughing gas. Taco Bell menus haven't been fully explored as inspiration for Dylan lyrics.
  2:03pm
Dean:

I'm referring, of course, to the old days, when TB provided pronunciation tips (buh-REE-toe). I haven't been in a TB in decades. Maybe all menus have been translated into fluent Dylan.
  2:05pm
Dean:

"Quid non lusimus in sono tamen?," if Google is reliable, and in lieu of "key," "tone" will work.
