Hi, Doug! Hey, @annie, WFMU is good to listen even if you're not actually listening to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46am Doug Schulkind:

annie!
We tuned into to WKCR's Bach festival yesterday to listen while unwrapping presents and the DJ must've got stuck in the bathroom because for about 10 minutes, all we heard was the needle thwacking against a record's center label. At least they were playing vinyl!!

Hey hey, doca!
Avatar 8:49am annie:

i know!!!! i heard that, too.. it had a good beat to it...i love that sound, too.. i thought he might have gone out for a smoke and locked himself out.
Avatar 8:49am doca:

@Doug: I've posted this on my blog today, maybe you'll like. It is a couple of Brazilian 78rpm recordings of traditional Afro-Brazilian musical genres. It's on an album that reworks these recordings, but I guess you'll like more the originals

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am Webhamster Henry:

How about pre-tsunami music from Indonesia and Thailand?
Avatar 9:22am PeterRarebit:

This set is a good example of a marriage of things that seem very different but go well together. For example, my wife and I don't like each other, but we've been married for over 20 years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Doug Schulkind:

Didn't we just pass the 10th anniversary of the horrible tsunami? A dear friend of ours from Sri Lanka lost many close family members. Awful awful awful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am Doug Schulkind:

@PeterRarebit
Me and Mrs. Drummersome celebrate our 20th in March.

There'll be waves of stories about Katrina next year.
Avatar 9:35am PeterRarebit:

@DS Did you have a grunge wedding, too? My priest's vestments included a flannel cassock, waffle union suit alb underneath, and a Roman collar made from a Temple of the Dog backstage pass. "You may now mosh the bride!"

Of course, non-Catholics didn't have to accept the espresso sip or wafer-of-smack Communion.

Jessie and I got married at NYC city hall. The Justice of the Peace had a thick Puerto Rican accent. We have the whole "ceremony" on cassette tape. She says, "Do you, Duglés take this woman Yessy, to be..." It was PERFECT.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Doug Schulkind:

Next up, some amazing experimental music inspired by the music of Karen Dalton!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am Doug Schulkind:

One of Karen Dalton's best-loved tunes was "Katie Cruel." This performance uses it as its touchstone.

Proof #729 that God didn't fuck up completely when he/she created the human race: This music right here.

Hello and welcome, Carl S! Mrs. Schulkind is still Allen! And we still desperately miss NY.
Avatar 🥁 10:30am βrian:

Happy Friday. Christmas on the Isthmus was quite nice. No snow but clear skies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am Doug Schulkind:

Mike Osborne is one of my most favorite musicians. A monster improvisor with the blast-furnace heart of a genius too hot for this world. Sometime time around the early 1980s, Osborne fell off the edge of the world and no one knew where he went or why. He had had terrible drug and marriage and mental health struggles, but still, his disappearance was a complete mystery.

In 2007, I met a fellow who tracked Osborne down to an in-patient psychiatric facility where Osborne had been living for many, many years. This fellow met with Ossie and took his picture. Here is a before and after: wfmu.org...

On odd occasions, Ossie would play his sax for fellow residents and staff—and no one knew the genius artist that lived among them. (Undoubtedly, Ossie no longer played with anything remotely like the ability he had once had.)

When Ossie died, I had that fellow who re-discovered him on with me on my show. Here's the playlist from that incredible show: wfmu.org...

Keep resting in peace, dear Ossie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am Doug Schulkind:

I'm glad you showed up, βrian, so I could wish you Merry Isthmus!
Avatar 10:33am PeterRarebit:

Thank you for the long post, DS. I appreciate the attention to grammar, clarity and paragraphization in the brief time allotted. Interesting content, too, but I'm more a fan of everything surrounding content than in the thing itself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Andrew Waterloo:

Will have to check out that old Mike Osborne show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Doug Schulkind:

I hears ya, PeterRarebit. Sometimes, context is not king. It is just an annoying jester juggling in the corner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am Doug Schulkind:

I made my beds, Listeners James, now we gotta lay in them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am Doug Schulkind:

@RevRabNov63
Yeah, you got to the very molten core of what made that Dunmall so great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Doug Schulkind:

This record was a "break-up" record of sorts for Ms. Gauthier. Here's hoping the next one is a "found a new love" record.
