Loud and (on a midnight) clear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm
Amanda:

I am Vince, Vince is me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm
listener james from westwood:

I hear some Vince and see a dog dubious about his or her illumination!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm
listener james from westwood:

Also some snow-covered songsters with a bit of 60s-esque Cooper Black typeface for atmosphere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm
Jeff Golick:

Don't forget the Ivory Snow flakes, for added holiday cheer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm
Jeff Golick:

Oh, wait - you did note the snow. Christmas Dog, save me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm
Dog Schulkind:

Almost 60°F here in Pittsburgh, but it's 1000°F in my heart for Amanda and all her glorious listeners.

'Manda! Didn't know whether or not you'd be on today. Love the idea of spending the afternoon of Christmas Eve with your show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm

Pouring down here in Manhattan (and I presume Jersey City & Westwood). Heading to Toys R Us in Times Square in a little bit. Pray for me.

43 and rainy now, it's actually gonna get up into the 60s at 1 am, strangely. santa's delivering in shorts this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm
listener james from westwood:

@Jeff: Good amount of rain, heavy then light, but supposed to get heavier later in NJ. Not too cold, though; copyediting in shorts. Elderly neighbors began pumping the heat up in their units around Halloween so it's usually toasty here w.o my doing likewise.
Avatar 12:11pm
northguineahills:

ah, the old xmas classics!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm

Jeff, good luck! If you can make your way east on 47th Street, you'll find a welcome at Maggie's near Madison.

@northguineahills, I am bringing all my junk outta the box today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Dawgies w/ lightbulbs & regretful expressions
Monkees w/ soapflakes & commercial intentions
Double entendres & dirty songs pop stars sing
These are a few of my favorite things...

I think this is the christmas show I didn't know I wanted. Thanks, Amanda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm

This program is dovetailing nicely with my Shaft special last evening.
Avatar 12:18pm

Amanda, do you have the SNL classic "Wish it was Christmas Today?" Horatio Sanz, Chris Kattan, Tracy Morgan & Jimmy Fallon?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm

I'm hoping for Mr. Steve Martin's Christmas wishes bit...

"Before My Dick we heard The Frogs."
I wish I will some day say something as lovely on air.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm

Jeff beat me to it. One does not get to hear that sentence very often.
Avatar 12:37pm
Dan B From Upstate:

Not that I've been looking for it, but I haven't heard "Christmas Wrapping" yet this year. That's not a request, btw. I'm just enjoying listening to the DJ. :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm
Parq:

For what it's worth, even without the political angle (and props to Amanda for that), I am really tired of "Fairytale of New York". Anyone would think that was the only alt Christmas song ever written.
Avatar 12:39pm
Carmichael:

I wonder if Phil Ochs ever put out a political Christmas song? He would have included Nixon, Santa Domingo and FBI suspicion.

And I agree, Parq. That and the fucking John Lennon song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm
Doug Schulkind:

Swoonworthy, this.
Avatar 12:39pm

I don't think I've ever heard that, Parq.

Poor Kristy McCol
@listener james: thanks for the heads-up on The Wire rebroadcast.

Jewish boy here- abandoned in my in-laws house with instructions to get some wrapping done. Delighted to have Amanda on the headphones while I do so. Thanks for the AaHP & Monkees tracks!

Josh:

Not a big fan of Christmas music, but it can’t all be modern French rock, I guess – Happy Holidays!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm
listener james from westwood:

A friend of mine and I almost died listening to that Sammy Swine "Blue Christmas" Porky Pig parody, sitting in his car in his driveway, having stumbled across it on one of the NYC radio stations one pre-Xmas day. Funny as much for the imitation as for the person in the background also laughing their ass off. (No offense to anyone who may have a speech issue.)

Salsoul! My uncle had a grand Xmas/New Year's LP of theirs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm
Amanda:

Why thank you, josh and Josh for your differing viewpoints. (Even if you are the same person!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm
listener james from westwood:

Amanda, in other Great Moments of Simpsons Overwriting Christmas Lyrics, I sang Nelson's lyrics to "Joy to the World" just earlier in this cut. Thanks, Groening & co.!
  1:15pm
josh:

We're not. I love Christmas music, especially really bad and misguided Christmas music. I own that Jingle Cats CD, and that's the tip of the iceberg!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm

GIVE THE DRUMMER RADIO PROGRAMMING ALERT...
The Drummer Stream will serve up its full complement of programming on Xmas Day and the day after. There will, however, be no Bodega Pop Live with Gary Sullivan this evening.

Of course, Give the Drummer Radio runs 24 hours a day, so you can always tune in and hear the stream spew sumptuous sounds in all its semi-automated superlativity!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm

^^^ This last paragraph I heard in the voice of Danny DeVito in his "L.A. Confidential" scandal-sheet writer role. Off the record, on the Q.T., and very Hush-Hush!

Great Christmas Eve show Amanda! Really got me in the spirit, Merry Christmas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
Amanda:

@Doug -- I know, a few of those crappy 60s gifts would be very welcome in my house too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
listener james from westwood:

Will always remember the trailer for the film "Misery" because the "classic" version of "Little Drummer Boy" used behind the dialog and actions on screen was suddenly very sinister.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
Amanda:

Thx jay c!

Merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year, etc. to everybody listening out there.

Logging off soon. Just wanted to say thanks for the great show. I'll be grabbing the archive for sure! Thanks Amanda, seasons greetings to you and yours and everyone in the WFMU-sphere!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm
Amanda:

Hmm, interesting comparison RRNov63 and I wouldn't be surprised if they WERE in the same room at least once...

You know what, I realized JUST like a couple of hours ago that Steve Earle's "Christmas in Washington" might not even be about Christmas. Because "Christmas" in Washington is really election day, right? Anyway, the sentiment is apropos for the season IMO.
