I quit 15 years ago during the winter months and for some reason, walking outside when it was super cold helped curb my cravings. I still don't understand how that worked, but I never went back. I think I mostly smoked out of boredom than anything else.

I like the lights too. It's my infantile male fascination with anything glowy or shiney, combined with emotional associations with the excitement and good vibes of Christmas experienced as a child. But for years now I've noticed that I can't walk around the city, or go into stores this time of year, without seeing these expressions of grim-faced drudgery on most people's faces. They're suffering through the obligations of gift shopping lists, family get-togethers, etc., instead of being open to the mood of communal warm reflection and light-hearted festivity that used to be more possible at this time of year.

Ugh, yeah it sucks. But somehow it's better than working 2nd shift. I actually see my family more now than I did on 2nd. I just sleep during the day while my wife is at work and my kid's at school. I'm tired a lot, but naps are good. And caffeine (speaking of the high-fructose garbage).
