It's Tuesday already?

Sem Chumbo:

Tuesday it is, the morning MARTY rules the stream. Hiya, MM, and hello KfHP.

Mark:

So good to hear "We Beg Your Pardon" this morning--it's been a long time. The whole album is great, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48am
Sem Chumbo:

Great, the Joe McGasko song!

fred:

Good morning Marty and listeners. A set with Brimful of Asha and the original Asha, there's a DJ who knows his stuff right there

Berg:

Hey Marty, Fred, all..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47am
the Canterbury wood-elf:

I've heard this Göttsching before (and read about its importance in the evolution of electronic dance music), but what I hadn't noticed is the similarity in guitar style to Vini Reilly (Durutti Column).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52am
Sem Chumbo:

Lovin' this jam, Marty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54am
fred:

There's also a faint echo of Pat Metheny playing Steve Reich's Electric Counterpoint, especially at the beginning. Though that was later than Göttsching's, which is interesting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57am
the Canterbury wood-elf:

Just been looking into this, and it seems Göttsching and Reilly (and maybe Metheny?) were heavy users of Echoplex delay, which may be a big part of the similiarity.

Sem Chumbo:

Thanks, Marty. Catch the rest on the archives. See ya next time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08am
fred:

@Canterbury Wood-elf: This is one of Reich's pieces that use several recordings on "tape" to achieve the delay effect with more than a few twists, so it could be a play on that. Probably not on Reich's part, as he had been doing that for years in his phasing phase (don't pardon the pun, it should be shot), but it could have influenced Metheny's handling of it

Hi MM! Wish I had time to stop & smell the hang gliders, but I have to go commute in a few minutes. Just tuning in a for a couple of songs. Sounds good!

Droppin' some science, eh Marty?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50am

I have to admit the earlier Gravy Train!!! made me feel my age, and that's not a good feeling. On the plus side, the last time I saw them is probably the last time I tried to dance. The world is a safer place now...
