Morning everyone! Nice to hear Jack Rose over the fiberoptic.

specksnyder:

Was up last night trying to learn Kensington Blues. That was why he was in the air, then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35am
Sem Chumbo:

Oh, this is sweet. Sky clear for the first time in days and dawn lightening by the minute. Ideal soundtrack.
Avatar 6:42am
doca:

Hey, Scott, I wouldn't mind 3 hours of Jack Rose...

Jack Rose!!
  6:59am
Mark:

Such a cool sound--kind of Indian and African and bluesy all together. Reminds me a little of "Talking Timbuktu"--just the exoticness of it.
  7:02am
Mark:

And ha, I thought you played "Hipnosis" before, just now realizing you do it every week! Not terribly observant here. Give me a break, it's early! I'm only on my first cup of coffee!

DeaconDave:

Good morning (where applicable) All.

You are making my day, inadvertently I know, Scott, but this Thursday cannot fail to be wonderful now, with a head full of Jack Rose:-D
Avatar 7:17am

I'm in agreement with Sem! Have to run to catch a bus in a few minutes...but I feel like this music is just going to carry me through the day...a pleasant little echo. Thanks Scott!

Lewis Goldfarb:

Jack Rose is turning out to be the best morning commute soundtrack I've had in ages! Thanks for bringing him to my attention on this long train ride into the city.

What time does JM in the AM go on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35am

Queen Of Caldor:

oh so you mean its not on the wfmu airwaves anymore
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41am
the Canterbury wood-elf:

@QoC JM in the AM only goes on WFMU's FM signal in NYC/NJ, is replaced by other programming on this online stream (but also has its own online stream, so no one has to miss out).
  7:49am
Queen Of Caldor:

I hate JM in the AM
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53am
the Canterbury wood-elf:

@QoC Well, you can rest assured that it won't show up on this stream (apart from a few surreal seconds of the Israeli national anthem during the FM->webstream changeover). I used to try tuning in online to WFMU from the UK for years and 9 times out of 10 seemed to end up listening, bewildered, to Zionist propaganda. This is no longer the case, happily.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01am
Brian in UK:

Hello Scott. still on in tune with your return.

Jack Rose's Buckdancer's Choice title reminds me of that line from the Dead's Uncle John's Band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04am
the Canterbury wood-elf:

@Brian That's what i thought too, but check this:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10am
Scott McDowell:

Indeed it's an old Sam McGee tune mined for lyric glory by Robert Hunter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16am
Brian in UK:

I used to have Sailcat's album Motorcycle Mama with specified buck dancing on it.
Avatar 8:20am
Reverend Fox:

Scott, thanks for the Jack Rose trax! A journey into 'the Pool Of Time',albeit pricey admission. This guys ragtime and old-time guitar style defined 1960's guitar for folks like myself. Can't believe I've never heard of him! That's why WFMU is essential!

Amen, Reverend!~
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30am
Sem Chumbo:

Later, Scott, and all. Been very fine this morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30am
the Canterbury wood-elf:

This RLF could easily pass for some 21st century lo-fi retro-alt.americana kind of thing. But it's the genuine article. Nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32am
Scott McDowell:

Thanks, Sem, see ya round
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39am

Beard rock? That's new to me. Anyone care to elaborate?
Avatar 8:40am
DeaconDave:

Left over from no shave November?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42am
Scott McDowell:

Early '70s countrified psych folk with beards.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43am
Marcel M:

Morning guys. Missed a nice Jack Rose set I see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46am
the Canterbury wood-elf:

Nice concise definition, thanks Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48am
the Canterbury wood-elf:

The last classification of that kind I heard was (as used by 20-somethings to describe Floyd and Zeppelin) "dad rock".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52am
Scott McDowell:

Fellow morning WFMUer John Allen in the mid-nineties had a marathon premium cassette called Beard Rock of this kind of music and it came with a felt beard. First time I heard the term.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57am
the Canterbury wood-elf:

Thanks for a great show Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58am
Marcel M:

Gotta love when that weird Nachum music pops on to ruin the mood..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00am
Marcel M:

Yonni Z! Eyyyy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00am
the Canterbury wood-elf:

He had Rabbi Meir Kahane in the studio back in the day. Look him up if you don't know the name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am
Marcel M:

Just looked him up.... wow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am
Scott McDowell:

Thanks all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am
the Canterbury wood-elf:

Actually, I take that back - it was a host called Larry Gordon that brought Kahane in. I don't know what Nachum's take on the Kach Party is (but I can guess).
