I do find that the hunter-gatherer part of my brain is stimulated and satisfied by rummaging through thrift stores, junk stores, etc..

	1:15pm Dean: There is a wonderful (and wonderfully recorded) disc on Winter & Winter, Uri Caine's Wagner e Venezia, that includes bleed-through from other performance spaces in the venue. It's unsettling, but fascinating.

	1:20pm Dean: Caine is definitely hit-or-miss in my experience. The Goldberg Variations project, for example, is so wacky-zany-out-there it's worth the price of admission, but I'm such a fan of more, uh, traditional Bach I have a hard time enduring it. But the Wagner record does a good job of invoking time past, which seems to be one of Stefan Winter's happy conceits.

	1:29pm Cecile: Do Winter & Winter records do better in Europe? I don't mean to be rude, but that label seems like a rich guy's toy to me. But God bless him for giving Tim Berne distribution when a lot of people wouldn't.

The drummer in particular was impressive, and I said as much to my kid. We waited for the back-announce. It was Open Loose. "Daddy has that record," I told him proudly. (Turns out I was wrong. I didn't realize OL were so prolific.)

The Goldberg Variations project, for example, is so wacky-zany-out-there it's worth the price of admission, but I'm such a fan of more, uh, traditional Bach I have a hard time enduring it. But the Wagner record does a good job of invoking time past, which seems to be one of Stefan Winter's happy conceits.

I didn't realize OL were so prolific.)
