	9:18pm Stevel: Nice! Heard this Foreigner album a lot summer of '78, working at a greenhouse (roses) in West Denver. It was an epic ode to drugs and groupies. Moving, really.

	9:20pm P-90: Evening efd and Funketeers. "Double Vision": great classic power-pop tune. Always strikes me as one of those songs were they had the chorus first, and had to figure out what the heck the verse would be. Like most of Duran Duran's songs.

	10:19pm Roberto: The first (and only) time I heard Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful (the title song from the album) on the radio c. 1982, I told my brother how much I liked the band and he suggested I show them my support by buying the album. Some 32 years later, I did just that!

	11:21pm Holly in NC: This is trite, and I was not a Nirvana obsessive (Mudhoney a different story..), but I so clearly remember typing up a case study in my living room, dot matrix printer merrily clacking away, MTV on in the background, and just being FLOORED when Smells Like Teen Spirit came on, it was such a shock. Seems funny now.
	11:23pm ccrides: Certain groups just have a feel for whats righteous...My son laughs at me when I tell him that Nickelback hit some kind of 'note', somewhere in there...if you trace the return of 'hard' melodic' rock you can't help but think of groups like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Audioslave, Three Doors Down, Tool,...etc. etc...something about what that music seems to connect with???...:)O(:...

The friend I was staying with worked at WBEZ at the time so we got up early to go down to the station to watch their on-air performance and then the Navy Pier performance. I was at a live album recording the did a few nights earlier [engineered by Bob Weston!]. I hope they release that soon. They were so much fun. I'm definitely going to plan another visit to Chicago that involves seeing them again.
	11:31pm Bad Giblet Zero: When I lived in Seattle there was a 70s arena rock cover band called 70 Proof. The rotating lineup included members of Mudhoney, Pearl Jam, Supersuckers, Fastbacks, Presidents of the USA and members of other bands that weren't on tour. Those guys had a blast playing songs you've heard a million times. They had another band called 80 Proof that covered your favorite new wave tunes.

EFD’s hair-metal-loving cousin Evan “Snake” Davies was dying to return to the airwaves in October after a four-year absence. However, this request was vetoed over concerns that his appearance might have had a deleterious effect on our Hellraiser efforts. He’s back today, though, spinning his favorite ‘80s (mostly) hard rock and hair metal just for you. Don’t (or maybe do) miss it!

Back in October 2006 I dedicated my first show on the regular WFMU weekly schedule to Jim McIntyre, a/k/a Jimmy Mack, who was one of my best friends in high school. That's him kneeling just to the right of center in the photo above, wearing the AC/DC Powerage t-shirt, along with the rest of the staff of WBCN/Boston back in 1978 or so. Jimmy started working there while we were in high school, and before long his passion, dedication and enthusiasm earned him the position of Music Director at the station.

Jimmy was the person who turned me on to a TON of new music that was coming out at the time -- Cheap Trick, The Dictators, The Ramones, The Stranglers, Ultravox, and Television are just a few of the bands that I first heard of because of my friendship with Jimmy. Imagine being in your teens and having a friend turn you on to just ONE of those bands. Now increase that impact tenfold, or more, and you start to get an idea of the importance of Jimmy's friendship. OK, not every band he turned me on to was super-cool -- he gave me the first couple of Foreigner albums, for instance -- but still, Jimmy had a great ear for cool music that wasn't yet -- or, sometimes, ever -- part of the mainstream.

Fortunately for me -- and for you -- that excitement and passion for discovering and sharing new music was matched by his generosity. Nearly every time I saw him he'd present me with a bag of extra (or rejected) promo records from his WBCN job. Many of those records remain favorites of mine to this day.

In the summer of 1985, Jimmy learned he had AIDS. A year later he passed away, at the age of 25. As you can see from the obituary that ran in the Boston Globe he was as generous with his time as he was with records. Regrettably I had lost contact with Jimmy by this time, and didn't hear of his passing until a few years later.

In the fall of 2006 I dedicated my first weekly show on the regular WFMU schedule to Jimmy. I wanted to acknowledge his impact on my life, and especially on my own musical tastes. Since then I've dedicated one of the first shows of the WFMU fall schedule to him, since his influence is never too far from what you hear me play on my show. Thanks for taking a moment to read about him, and thanks for listening to WFMU.

The friend I was staying with worked at WBEZ at the time so we got up early to go down to the station to watch their on-air performance and then the Navy Pier performance. I was at a live album recording the did a few nights earlier [engineered by Bob Weston!]. I hope they release that soon. They were so much fun. I'm definitely going to plan another visit to Chicago that involves seeing them again.

The rotating lineup included members of Mudhoney, Pearl Jam, Supersuckers, Fastbacks, Presidents of the USA and members of other bands that weren't on tour. Those guys had a blast playing songs you've heard a million times. They had another band called 80 Proof that covered your favorite new wave tunes.
