Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from October 3, 2014 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Wasn't that Billy Preston's first single, right after "Concert for Bangladesh" heightened his visibility? The sound was so familiar, that when I first heard it just now, I assumed it was a TV theme.

Preston was the first rock artist to do a concert at Radio City Music Hall. I was a summer employee at the Music Hall (people who work there never call it "Radio City") and one of the stagehands told me that, for more than a week before the concert, Preston would come every night after the last stage show was over and practice on the Mighty Hammond.

@Steelguitarlane: I use a mortar & pestle.
The electric coffee grinder is in a cabinet below the counter, and it is more difficult to clean, and I am more likely to break it. For some reason, I enjoy crushing the cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, cloves, or cumin seeds in the mortar & pestle.

Another problem with the electric coffee grinder is that if you have music on, it can drown out the music. But with a mortar & pestle, you can grind in time to the music.

I UM! Great set! Rocking my cell/cubespace as much as company policy allows!

Oligarchy.

The phrase is, for better or worse, "or a darkie."
