A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

I have a pretty vivid visual memory from when I was a teenager throwing Doritos off the back of a small boat and the sky filling with seagulls.

When my friend Dave was working in San Pedro he would bring a large bag of popcorn to work with him. The gulls started to recognize his truck and swarm behind him on his way into the job site.

Based partly on these events I once made a giant bird feeder as a sculpture.

Maybe bird seed could be part of the solution.

is this song in breaking bad? this version?

...I *do* think it's not unrelated to the same thing in Society that keeps the Music that WFMU plays from being distributed; I think a lot of people *would* like some of it - *if* they heard it ! (...all those people who say 'there's no good music now' - but never hear any of it to know...)
...I'm one of those people that always has a sneaking suspicion that Economics, Culture & Music do somehow effect each other
...there are no 'local' radio stations anymore, ferinstance, altho' you can get up on YouTube I guess...

I had to guffaw at the articles saying we appreciate music less as we get older. For me it has been the exact opposite.

@Trouble: BB uses the original. They had the willpower to hold off until the last season before using it. Worth the wait.

I feel pretty bad for people whose curiosity (about music and otherwise) ended after HS or college or at all. I don't feel sorry for scared white people though!

We have the class system over here. Stronger than it ever was, thanks to the Conservative Party.

Yes sadly lots of people just stop taking a real interest in music after High School and College

We live in a risk averse society and people just don't have any patience for experiencing things they don't like. So radio stations, TV stations, Newspapers and magazines constantly worry about doing something that will make people change the channel.

...there *is* the energy & trauma of adolescence - a biological peak, & the discovery - which is why that time often imprints - it just happens that most of us were prolly listening to less mainstream stuff even then, I'd venture

I moved three times during high school, going to a junior high in one state, first 2 years of high school in another state and last 2 years in yet another state. That was the kiss of death for me. Thank GOD I had a Walkman full of angry punk music to keep me company.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am

It is hard work being cool. No time to enjoy yourself. Bit like taking pictures at gigs instead of enjoying the music.

@Trouble - HS less about fitting in than keeping other people out. If kids were taught to embrace that they know nothing and have their entire lives to grow, learn, and become human beings, and that even the dorkiest among us has something worthwhile to offer, I think there would be so much less insecurity and ignorance. And lord knows what else. But what the hell do I know?

- always loved Lennon's words on the Education System. If the purpose of the thing is to help people find out who they are & what needs to happen to get them into Society doing it - it fails so spectacularly it's beyond a joke to even think about...Interesting HS is singled out - that space between Childhood & Adulthood that no one really understands or plans for (after the School Shooting in Colorado - I thot - know exactly how you feel - but two weeks after School got out - none of it would even matter, kid !!)
...But of course I'm a Liberal & I think Education should be financed, because it's cheaper than a Society full of failed & mal-adjusted people - even if yer a Libertarian holed up in your compound w/ tripwire bombs against visitors...
