I once got a small conical snail shell imbedded completely in my big toe, while coming in from surfing on a trip down in Mexico. You have to walk on slippery cobblestones to get back to the beach, snails on the cobbles. Good thing I always keep a small swiss army knife on my keychain!

GDTM has some weak-ass lyrics that strain to scan with the melody, but both it and the Gants' similarly "Ticket to Ride"-inspired "My Baby Don't Care" do justice to the source!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- astute (naturally!) - but the naivete matches the subject-matter - & that is the melancholy of Summer; I can so hear Lennon's voice in '64 propelling the combo of hurt & anger...

only bad part of the jersey shore is lack of WFMU signal. Though I hope to catch some Jonesy on "The Hawk"...if he's still there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Good point in that the subject matter, and how Carl delivers it, makes the song magical, despite clunky constructions like "during your ol' schooltime."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm

Also, GDTM emulates the Fab Four further in that the Beach Boys are playing all the instruments (if you don't count their roadie on tambourine), a rarity in 1965.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm

I'm not at all about how dumb the lyrics are (I'm a big fan of stupidity in lyrics); I'm talking about how they're so lazily constructed they at times don't even fit the song's meter without straining. As simplistic as Beatles lyrics could sometimes be, they pretty much always scanned.
