Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Well, you're timing is good Uncle Mike. Tomorrow is the 60th anniversary of the Brown vs. Board of Education decision, which grew from Topeka's Monroe Elementary School refusing to allow Linda Brown to attend.

Praise Allah that it wasn't THIS U.S. Supreme Court that heard the case.

@UM What's really interesting is to trace the history of ending school segregation - how it started slowly - with the desegregation of graduate programs and worked its way up to public primary and secondary education.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm
Uncle Michael:

It's kind of funny that Linda Brown alone got famous. She wasn't the plaintiff, her parents were. She used to charge money to be photographs for stories about Brown v. BOE.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm
Uncle Michael:

Also Thurgood Marshall gets too much credit. Two brothers, African-American attorneys from Topeka, the Scotts, *got* the case to the SCOTUS. I knew one of the Mrs. Scotts late in her life and she was a dear.
