I think that was a peformance of George Will's favorite poem, rich with baseball's elegant pastoral beauty.

Sure hope everyone is enjoying a day as similarly perfect as the one here today.

Oh! Don't believe I've heard ANYone play Los Lobos since I've been listening to the music programs here (2012) -- thanks. I am mesmerized by much of their "Kiko" lp.

Dickinson! I once heard him introduce "Across The Borderline" (which he co-wrote) as "the song that paved my driveway."

kat330:

Great sounds, Matt. Nice to have something inside counteracting the outside commotion. Still a perfectly lovely day but for the past two hours today we got to experience what it's like to be under fire from US fighter jets as they strafed our home (and Philo's workplace, too) with 30+ low-flying passes directly overhead. Rehearsing for Saturday's "Thunder Over Louisville" I suppose.

Hi 'Stepping Razor' Brian
Howya doing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm
listener james from westwood:

I'm a sucker for all "Goldfinger" covers, but this one is extra-nice.
Avatar 3:05pm
still b/p:

Suddenly I'm seeing Goldfinger as a rat-packer, tie loosened, some brow sweat, drink in hand, finger snapping on stage. "No, baby, I expect you to die."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
Brian in UK:

Stanley, in the pink old bean. Aching to hear Rick Danko sing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm
Brian in UK:

Stanley Correct answer: I'm dangerous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm
Stanley:

@Brian - okay, so I wont watch your size
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm

Guess you are back in the grind now.

kat330:

Holy crap that jet is flying low!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
Stanley:

You guessed right, my friend. Like I was never away, let alone on a higher plane.
Re the Rick Danko, either you have a song by The Band on the turntable or, as I suspect, you're at it with your extraordinary powers again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm
Stanley:

kat330 - I remember when I lived in the hills the low flying jets gave the cows heart attacks. No kidding.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm
Brian in UK:

Nice, some voices just get inside you.
Gotta cut to cookin' and leave this cookin' show. Tops, Matt.

All the birds outside are having fits. We don't have any domestic pets, but I bet the whole neighborhood has put their pets up. It is LOUD. I decided to record some of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm
Parq:

Kat, in the late 90s, the Air Force scheduled a flyover for the Flatiron District as a finish for the Vets Day parade down Fifth Avenue. I was home with my daughter and it scared holy hell out of me. I was sure that a plane was crashing in the neighborhood.

I am loving the meandering journey through jazz. New Orleans jazz was my first infatuation.
Avatar 3:24pm
kat330:

@Parq: I mean we go through this every April, but NEVER has it been this long, this incessant, so directly over our home AND so low-flying. Truly feels like we're under fire.
Avatar 3:25pm
kat330:

And I can't help considering the waste of jet fuel and air pollution. :/

I have a photo of me with Bill Coday at SXSW in Austin! He opened the show at Antone's for Denise LaSalle and Little Milton. RIP Bill (1942-2008) -- he was born in Coldwater MS where the Jim Dickinson family lived.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm

Yeah, I listened to the first hour of the Duane show this morning. Really dug the pop-rockin' second set, the one that started with Dancing Queen. Glad to know that someone else sees Abba numbers as making great rock and roll songs.

Hackensack Slim:

I sure dug seeing Ray Sharpe at the Stomp. Hope we get to see him again sometime soon.
