fleep: Trader Joe's lots can be chaotic even on weekdays. Someone lost a leg in the one near my apt—no shit. Be careful!
Also, for those also exercising caution in the Whole Foods parking lot, for your post-D:O delectation: www.youtube.com...
I know Mazen Kerbaj is one of the co-owners of Al Maslakh, his old comic blog was www.kerbaj.com and here's an excerpt he did as an improv duo of trumpet & the Israeli air force over Beirut during the last military incursion. (The full 40 minutes version can be found somewhere). www.youtube.com...
"My plane leaves in an hour. Think about a pledge."
Jeff, I'm just back from a copy editors' conference. I was awash in lovely vocabulary throughout it. Bracing, like applying fresh compost while prepping a garden.
Jeff on impulse (not the label) I bought ticket for William Parker at Cafe Oto after Doug played him on Friday. Not really tuned into Mr Parker. Any entry points?
@Brian: I lost touch with WP the last few years, but I think all his output in the 90s is worthwhile, though he releases dozens of albums. Why not something from his band back then, In Order To Survive?
Yeah, I remember David S. Ware quartet was my entry point to free jazz some 10-12 years ago, good days. Still don't know how I got to know it.
Anyway, Brian, there's a lot to cover but all is good.

Peter:
I second "Sound Unity" as the entry point for William Parker, and then maybe the first "Raining on the Moon." For more out, "The Peach Orchard" from the "In Order to Survive" line-up.
@Jeff: that one! Hard stuff, nice stuff
@Brian: yes, he has an album with Joe Morris and Hamid Drake in which they all switch to other instruments, but I don't know if Parker plays the kora on that. It's Eloping with the Sun, the name of it.
@NGH 12:46: My mind is blown to bits. I haven't seen Mazen in years, but I'm trying to connect people in Beirut these days, if it works I might get news
Only for the trumpet, isn't it? It's a very international record (as those usually were in Italy back then). I was going to ask if the band was all-Italian or not...
This post has Roswell Rudd on trombone groups.google.com...
Don't know what that guy knows that discogs doesn't, but I bet the trumpet part is misprint.
@Jeff: Sorry, got sucked into work there. Nope, nothing to report, on the serial comma front, other than the folks using AP and Chicago got along nicely at the conference despite differing on that point. The casino booze may or may not have helped broker a peace.
@fred: if all goes according to plan, the fam is headed to Paris next summer, maybe early July -- a 50th bday present for my wife. And of course the rest of us.
Yeah, thanks. We were starting to talk about that kind of thing. Though given our reason for going, I'm not sure how many shows will be on the docket...
@Jeff: I guessed as much, but if any show was in your plans, it might as well be a good one, not a tourist trap. Do check out La Dynamo www.banlieuesbleues.org..., a wonderful place, not sure whether they'll be having shows when you're around

(Speaking of the 2nd half, do let me know how it ends, as we haven't really planned it out that far...)
So: any new serial comma developments?
