Avatar 6:24pm glenn:

he doesn't look a day over 85.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Doug Schulkind:

My pleasure, Mr. Hills!
Avatar 6:25pm Holly in NC:

Happy Birthday @ngh!!!!!!!!

Not a fan of Ginsberg, am a fan of being able to read him.
Also not entirely sure how many present day US Courts would uphold the law regarding a piece of art that I'm sure many of the Justices personally found quite offensive.
Avatar 6:27pm northguineahills:

t'was Sunday, but I was braindead yesterday. I'm too old for two days straight of raging. thanks Doug, glenn, davex, earrie, Holly, and everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Doug Schulkind:

Happy Holly in NC!
Ginsberg is absolutely meant to be read aloud (allowed). It is musical and syncopated and rhythmically intentional.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm Doug Schulkind:

Glad you're here-y, earrie.
  6:28pm jeff g:

Happy belated, @ngh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Doug Schulkind:

Here is the judge's glorious ruling on Howl. Hugely worth reading all the way through (after the show, of course): mason.gmu.edu...
  6:30pm jeff g:

Happy 85th birthday to Cecil Taylor, too.
Avatar 6:30pm northguineahills:

muchas gracias, jeff g!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Doug Schulkind:

Cecil!
Avatar 6:34pm Carmichael:

Heya, North Beach beatniks and hepcats. I'm playing bongos to this recitation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Doug Schulkind:

The last time I saw Allen Ginsberg in person was at the WFMU record fair! It was 1994 or 95. Back when the fair was held in the auditorium basement of Mary Help of Christians Church on the Lower East Side.
Avatar 6:36pm still b/p:

Party hats for ngh bday: berets for all.
Avatar 6:37pm Carmichael:

Berets AND sunglasses. And perhaps espressos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Doug Schulkind:

Double espressos, Carmichael. Definitely.
Avatar 6:38pm northguineahills:

I've never read Howl in its entirety. I have heard multiple recitations. I think I've gotten most of it in my head.

(looks for my beret)
Avatar 6:39pm Carmichael:

Envy for Doug! I can't say I saw Ginsberg in person, unless it was on a North Beach street. But I did patronize City Lights bookstore plenty of times. Seemed like the right thing to do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Doug Schulkind:

Allen didn't look so good. Kind of scraggly. I wanted to peer closer and see what records he might've purchased, but I was to starstruck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Doug Schulkind:

Holy howly Holy howly Holy howly...
Avatar 6:43pm still b/p:

How(l) about a Lord Buckley chaser?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Doug Schulkind:

If only, still b/p.
Avatar 6:45pm Carmichael:

Wow, I assumed Ferlinghetti was long gone. I just found that he is still alive at 95!
Avatar 6:46pm ndbob:

Happy Birthday NGH! .. and Heya Holly!
Avatar 6:46pm ndbob:

@Carmichael Same here
Avatar 6:48pm Holly in NC:

All about bongos, berets don't work with my crazy hair.
Jug wine & cigarettes. If I thought for 1 second I could backslide re. smoking for 1 day without consequence I'd be totally encased in a mysterious haze right now. Sadly, I think otherwise, so I'll stick with the wine only ;-)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Doug Schulkind:

Hair today, gone tomorrow.
Avatar 6:53pm Carmichael:

I still have some, but technically it's *earbrows*.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Doug Schulkind:

But they are some highbrow earbrows, to be sure, Carmichael.
Avatar 6:55pm Holly in NC:

@Carmichael - "earbrows". Love! What a great expression!
Avatar 6:56pm northguineahills:

Hair came out before my time, but I do have the soundtrack on vinyl.
Avatar 6:57pm ndbob:

excellent show Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Doug Schulkind:

This show has left me feeling happy and sad. Thanks for holding my hand, peoples.
Avatar 6:58pm Holly in NC:

Oh Lucinda. She was so, so SO good. I pretend that she's not still recording.
Avatar 6:58pm Holly in NC:

Than you Doug!
Avatar 6:58pm earrie:

Thanks for spur down memory lane. It was June 1995 that Ginsberg was in Canada - in the rugged and wooden pier 21 before-it-was-renovated.
I'd been working remotely (wildlife somewhere) and wandered Halifax-way for the event.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm Doug Schulkind:

@Holly in NC
Gurf Morlix, we need you!
Avatar 7:00pm Carmichael:

Thanks, Doug!
Avatar 7:00pm northguineahills:

Thanks Doug. Awesomeness!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm Doug Schulkind:
