@Doug our cat got his tail caught in the back door a few years ago & chopped the end off. It did look funny with a dressing on it.
Doug Schulkind:
I have some epsom salt baths with Luna in my future. Sharing the rest would be TMI.
@Brian in UK
Our cat Bluestar once caught his tail on fire in the menorah. He was yowling up a holy hell. (Pun intended.)

Many years ago, WFMU had to move. It was situated in an old house that was owned by a college that was going bankrupt and needed to sell the house. So WFMU instituted a House of Tomorrow campaign during the (I think) '97 marathon to help finance the purchase of a new building. Once the station moved into its new location, it called the campaign House of Today, to continue paying off the loans the station took out to buy the building.
Around that time, WFMU's online presence began to really take off and it needed to earmark a increasing amount of funds to support the website, the playlists, the archives... and eventually the streams. So the station called its next campaign, The Mouse of Today!
Pledges at first the House and then Mouse level were the dollar-a-day level of $365. Hereafter, we just call those size pledges "Mouse Pledges." And when people pledge at that level, the station earmarks the $$ to support its online projects.

New York Public Radio — the organization that includes classical music station WQXR, New Jersey Public Radio, and, of course, WNYC — just received a $10 million grant from the Jerome L. Greene Foundation, the New York Times reports. While $2 million of the new grant will go to supporting the radio group's Jerome L. Greene Performance Space, the remaining $8 million will help New York radio move into the future with Discover, a new feature of the WNYC app that will allow users to create downloadable playlists based on "topics that interest them and the amount of time they want to listen."
Discover is intended to make it easier for listeners to find podcasts they already know and like, as well as to introduce them to shows they're not familiar with. Clearly, the new setup was designed to appeal to two crucial New York demographics that, for either logistical or generational reasons, don't listen to much radio: people who happen to be on the subway and people who happen to be young. And, as the Times points out, the technology will "also keep listeners within the WNYC ecosystem, where they can be encouraged to contribute financially." Because what's a public-radio listening experience without constant, smooth-voiced requests for cash?
