T'will be nice to no longer go from 6 month of feast, 6 months of famine. Still getting used to the realities of contract work.

Thanks y'all, I appreciate it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm
listener james from westwood:

It took a bit of adaptation to contract work on my side. It got easier once I could set aside money for quarterly taxes so I wouldn't run the bank account down too low when paying them.
Avatar 7:48pm
Holly in NC:

Kenzo, if you're around, would it be hard and/or expensive to add a 32K mp3 option to the live GTDS shows?

Sometimes my connection doesn't support pop-up or 128k.

Of course, I may be the only person in the non-rural US who has this issue, due to my mule-like refusal to deal with Time Warner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm
listener james from westwood:

Wow, that KZ title has some impressive diacritical marks. (That sounds like some nasty typographical euphemism.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm
listener james from westwood:

Not wanting to deal with TimeWarner is a hardwired human reflex.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm
listener james from westwood:

(Cablevision in the NYC area's not much better, but I hear Comcast takes the cake as the broadband Mordor.)
Avatar 7:56pm
northguineahills:

I have just internet from Time-Warner (no cable). Three years ago it was $35. Now it's $68. Service is marginally better, in that it works 90% of the time, instead of 50% of the time (streaming issues, random outages, etc).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm

@Gary - I like this DKR track - Clearwire's finally letting me listen! yay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm
listener james from westwood:

NGH, likewise on just-broadband for my account. One benefit I have to credit Cablevision for is that they have hotspots all over the NYC area that are free to those with accounts, so I can hop on for free from my iPod Touch. This spared me having to buy a data plan and a smartphone when my old clamshell died; I got the iPod, let the phone co. sell me a new clamshell for 99 cents, and Verizon can soak someone else for the extra $50/month or whatever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm
listener james from westwood:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm
Gary:

My internet provider is TWC. I bought the most expensive monthly plan, which is I think like $78/month. No TV (we use an antenna). I just went for it b/c I wanted this show to work without a hitch (fingers crossed) and because I do a lot of, um, downloading? Like ... a lot of downloading.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02pm
listener james from westwood:

It's really been amazing—each new show that's come into the GTDR orbit, I've been like, "Yes, of course!" All such great fits for the stream and the station.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02pm

Really rather badly want some pledges to come in to support Gary at the beginning of his WFMU adventure. Send him off into the night with a big grin and the energy to seek out more mind-blowers for next week's Bodega Pop Live! PLEDGE!

listener james from westwood:

Gary has done the legwork to check out countless bodegas so you don't have to. Pledge and the station might be able to re-sole his well-worn CD-shopping shoes!
