Every show starts with the ’70s! We’ll rediscover forgotten rockers, revisit unfairly maligned disco beats and replay power-pop favorites. Next: plenty of new releases, occasional live bands and more. Don’t let the nickname confuse you.

February 19, 2014: RIP Marty Thau
Listen to this show:
Pop-up player!
Marty Thau had a long and influential career in the music business, most notably as the manager of the New York Dolls and the founder of the Red Star record label. He passed away on February 13 at the age of 75. Joe Bonomo, author of Sweat: The Story Of The Fleshtones, America's Garage Band has an excellent remembrance posted on his site; Andy Schwartz, longtime New York Rocker editor, also shared his thoughts. You can also read Roy Trakin's obit for Billboard. From bubblegum to punk and beyond, Marty Thau made a huge impact. I hope the opening set of this show helps to convey that in some way.

Well, I might, but I'd never admit it.

One is University of Illinois 25th anniversary of experimental music LP set that I got in college (and that is almost 25 years old itself and that I probably should get the turntable working just to hear now lo these many years later when I'd have much more interest in it).
The other is Wetton/Manzanera

It's also now officially almost certainly the most valuable recording I own

Many "vanity press" LPs are unlistenably boring, only one of mine rises to "Why isn't this a legend?" (Arena of Shame by Carey's Problem, which I shared with Irwin, who did one of their songs for H&M, but most the album would not pass FCC muster)

(Not a prog album btw - just something incredibly rare) Hell I was given it after I participated in a Krannert Seminar or something.
Fun how Evan can play a song and it leads me on this totally different path :)
