They would have to get it anyway, and you spared them a trip and the risk of snapping their back bending to pick it up!

That piano riff Hearty keeps playing--it reminds me of some existing hymn...I think it's "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God".

One episode of "Lost" opened with a "Mad World" allusion: The camera panned down from the sky thru a "W" of palm trees, to a pair of characters digging in the dirt.

Robert:

But Matt, the scene I'm describing really WAS on "Lost". Sun was working in her garden and Jack came along with a spade and offered to help. I thought they were giving us a clue as to what the plot of "Lost" was really about. But now I see it had much more cx to "The Lost Special" (after which it was named) and the TV series "Dept. S".
  8:00pm
Herr Faultheim:

you're right, Lost was almost as un- funny as Mad Mad World
Avatar 👻 8:01pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Robert: And it's subtle relation to the story by Sir Arthur C.D.--you must be the commenter who pointed out!
  8:02pm
Robert:

Only it's not subtle, it's a major relationship. The real story of "Lost" is not what it appeared to be.
  8:03pm
Herr Faultheim:

the only clue anyone needs to the plot of Lost is that there was NEVER any plot at all
Avatar 8:04pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...wull - for example - the difference between Mystery & Noir is - Noir isn't about Plot...
  8:04pm
Robert:

I thought that when it ended--that Damon Lindelof, who was a friend of mine, had let us down--but after I read some more A.C. Doyle, I realized that was not the case. They must just be waiting for the right time to present the denouement.
  8:06pm
Robert:

http://users.bestweb.net/~robgood/teach has my analysis as it unfolded, which I'm still updating.
  8:06pm
p-90:

you don't really think the's any kind of denouement, do you?
no way dude
  8:08pm
Robert:

If there isn't going to be one, then in effect "Lost" would've been written just for me, which I doubt.
Avatar 8:08pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...in fact - Noir is about things *not* resolving...
  8:09pm
Robert:

What you had to realize is that the characters had (or were, depending how you look at it) doubles, at least some of whom were brainwashed into thinking they were really those people.
  8:11pm
Robert:

If you can read "Tales of Terror and Mystery" and "Round the Fire Stories" by Doyle, and get ahold of some previous adaptations of "The Lost Special" (including, amazingly enough, "Watchmen"), and then watch both seasons of "Dept. S", you won't conclude otherwise.
  8:12pm
Robert:

It also helps to know I introduced Damon to "Dept. S" via the episode "One of OUr Aircraft Is Empty".
  8:13pm
p-90:

its written for anyone who wants to gaze unto a chaotic jumble of portentious fragments that always hint at some underlying substance that simply is not there, and play the game of imagining what it MIGHT add up to, if it ever did, which it doesnt
  8:17pm
p-90:

sorry, but it is my curse to speak only the network tv truth
