On my college radio show, I used play Azar Lawrence's "Bridge Into the New Age." It's what the kids today would call Spiritual Jazz. (And by kids, I am of course referring to 35-year-olds.)
You mean that the Coltrane will be fifty years *young*, right? (starting to feel a little sensitive about my own odometer rolling over that mark next year...)
Trane died young, but looking at the direction he was taking prior to his death, his death was inevitable, his art and music was limited by his physicality - 'the pursuit of spirituality' required the sacrifice!
