Not directly related to Matt's playlist, but has anyone ever heard the rumor that Dennis Quaid's dream movie project is a biopic of Spade "You Clobbered Me" Cooley?

knowing it's criterion, i'm surprised it's not "it's a mad mad mad mad mad mad made mad mad mad mad world".

Hi Brian, how are you doing?
Just finished the busiest day at work in the year.
Managed to file the last tax returns today.
Tomorrow I rest.

Man, you're playing my favorites, Matt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm

FYI: The singer from the Mr. T Experience wrote a really fun novel called King Dork. Recommended.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm
Brian in UK:

Hello Stanley. What is this tax of which you speak?

Bye the bye do you see the picture. Howard 350 with Kohler K141 engine.

Did he write it under the nom de pen "Dr. FranK"?

Quaid's depiction of Spade Cooley can't be worse than his take on Jerry Lee. It would also be a tough story to give a Hollywood happy ending to.

what in the name of the little baby cheebus is goin' on?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
pacific standard simon:

@james - yep, If you watched that followed by Casino Royale ('67) and Skidoo, the world would tilt off its axis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
listener james from westwood:

i've always liked that james ellroy depicts cooley in his fiction as the shitheel he was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm
pacific standard simon:

Or Matt's CD would skip.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm
listener james from westwood:

"cr"'s on the list. all i've read about it suggests it falls into the category, like david lynch's "dune," of "glorious mess." not a bad thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm
listener james from westwood:

the worst that happens is you have the "cr" main theme and "the look of love." not bad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm
Stanley:

The tax of which I speak is the blood of the populace that is demanded by our lords and masters. Its my job to do the letting as painlessly as possible.

The rotavator is beautiful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm
pacific standard simon:

And the Main Theme is full of Wrecking Crew. Bonus!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm
Jeff Golick:

My eyeballs are on my knees, too.

Matt, have you compared the two versions of this on the new box? They seem pretty similar to me, at first listen - even including that "pregnant pause" before the solo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm
Matt F:

Yeah, almost like the solos are all that's different.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm
Brian in UK:

Enjoy the rest, Stanley. Seizure later.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm

the decision to use the badfinger cut was also likely motivated by the all-too-fitting opening line.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm
Mike East:

still haven't watched the final 8 episodes....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm

oh, I'm looking forward to it. I actually tried to purchase them on Amazon when I had a free trial month of amazon prime, but it wouldn't let me do it, so I gave up and decided not to get amazon prime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm
Matt F:

Agreed. But you'll also be relieved when it's over. It really stressed me out to watch that show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm
Uncle Michael:

Hey Mike...you guys providing backline for Crosby?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
listener james from westwood:

i've been rewatching it. i'm about 4 eps into the 16 of season 5. i have to take a break b/c feb's gonna be a particularly shitty month emotionally. wil resume at spring thaw. it's that intense.
mike, you can also get 'em from itunes if you're looking to purchase.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm
Mike East:

@UM - I don't think so. Just got a Booker T rider for next month though, so that's pretty cool.
@listener james - I may just wait for them to be released on netflix. I'm going through The Sopranos right now, which I missed when it was on the air and am now REALLY enjoying.

No weekend shows on the stream... odd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm

I bet that's cuz the WFMU mainstream schedule is not to be fucked with. That's some good radio right there.
Avatar 3:38pm

I've rarely listened to WFMU on the weekends, except maybe Satmorns and late nights (after midnight)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm

solid stuff during the weekends. lots of stuff i can edit or proofread during via the magic of archives ... or on very busy weekends. :O
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm

Joseph Spence must surely be listed somewhere as greatest human being ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm
Mike East:

Pretty much the only time I'm NOT tuned in on the weekends is when I'm at the grocery store...though that may change now that I have a smartypants phone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
listener james from westwood:

i picked up an ipod touch for myself for xmas. love hearing the station at the gym now, or when working out of the office. all i need is a hotspot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
Stanley:

@Parq - I agree entirely with you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
pacific standard simon:

It's true that Saturday is pretty magic for me on the main stream, don't know what I'd listen to if there was competition from GTDR. Sunday, not so much -- especially with Monica gone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
Uncle Michael:

As far as I know, there is no part of WFMU's terrestrial broadcast schedule that is not to be fucked with. The reasons there are no weekend shows on GTDR are not known to me but that *that* is not one of them, is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
listener james from westwood:

i once tried to take a portable radio to the gym to keep hearing jones. here was this idiot on a treadmill with an antenna hanging off the side, fiddling with the knob to keep the damn signal.

Greatly enjoying this set Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm

The only two live programs on Ichiban are on Saturdays, I think.
Avatar 3:49pm
northguineahills:

On weekday evenings and weekends I usually listen to my rekkids. If it's too late or early to put on the hi-fi, I'll put on WFMU. However, if what I'm playing annoys my gf too much, the one thing we can agree on is the GTDS stream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
Uncle Michael:

I wonder if Washington Phillips knew Utah Phillips.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm

Matt's show trumps Fabio's but I'm a switching over straight after.
