I hope there's (liquid) water where you are
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm
Rich in Washington:

They say water's the one thing we look for when searching for potential for life on other planets.
A deep freeze is just nature's way of wiping the slate clean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm

...Ā°F temperatures up in the double-digits up heah in New Hampshuh! It's pretty exciting. Now if the same thing could happen w/ IQs har har...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm

That's kind of a tall order
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm

...wull - that'd be triple-digits really...guess *I'm* off the Genius label...

northguineahills:

It's actually above freezing here.

For some reason, I've always liked the Pizzicato Five.

It's triple digits here, if you use the Kelvin scale.
Avatar 12:25pm

is there a Hobbes scale?

This is the first Christmas in almost two decades that I haven't been on the graveyard shift. Even when I had the holiday off, I would have to wake up at some inappropriate hour and eat a huge meal that my stomach was unprepared to receive.

wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm
Uncle Michael:

Thanks, Dominick...you're faster than I!
Avatar 1:08pm
nanantatee:

Thanks also what does it mean? Are all the djs drummers? Is there a concept? I feel like it's unpredictable but often there's a lot of old school r&b and rockabilly stuff playing.
Avatar 1:08pm
northguineahills:

fyi, a cursory search for Ben Lee's 7" 'Exposure' has the date at multiple sites for the year of release as, "unknown".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
Amanda:

@nanantatee, it is named after Doug Schulkind's show Give The Drummer Some. Doug started the alternate stream after he moved out of the NYC/NJ area. Thanks for your nice words!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
Uncle Michael:

nanantatee, Our fearless leader, Doug Schulkind hosted his show, Give the Drummer Some, on WFMU for many years before starting the alternate stream. The stream takes it's name from his show. You could hear anything on this stream...and will.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm
Uncle Michael:

Ignore my errant apostrophes.
Avatar 1:16pm
glenn:

huh. non entity. very clever.
Avatar 1:19pm

thanks i thought it was freeform but didn't know if there was any meaning in the name

jay c:

ripping the killer tunes as always, thanks for keeping the holiday season rockin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm
Amanda:

Well, you are most welcome, jay c!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...now that you mention it, some part of the back of my brain always thot the stream favored notably Rhythmic music of some kind (World music? primary R&B??) - even tho' I know 'Give the Drummer Some' is a semi-jokey phrase for giving kudos or a chance to shine to the guy in the back in the band...put that maybe in the psyche's recycling bin w/ dreaming @ night about the house you grew up in or your HighSchool locker combo...

KINKS
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm
Rich in Washington:

@Amanda: I know exactly what you mean. Whenever I hear a Kinks song on someone's show, etc.. I always wonder why I've never taken the plunge and bought loads of their albums.
There are probably lots of other bands that I feel that way about.
Avatar 1:35pm
glenn:

yep. that's the best rock and roll band ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm
Jeff Golick:

Kinks last night on Doug's GTDS -- which I listened to this morning.
!!
Avatar 1:39pm

and anybody who doesn't agree with me will be forced to listen to foreigner, a la manuel noriega. (even though that may have been van halen, which is just as bad)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

ElvisCostello is a ā™¨Virgo who is a little too analytical; when you hear his songs, you can hear him writing them. I will take it - every time - over ubiquitous gratuitous stupidity in Music & the World.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
Dominick:

Gotta agree about Kinks and Elvis C.'s pre Punch the Clock output.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
