Hello kat330, you early bird you! And you, too, Artie.
Avatar 5:41pm kat330:

I'm early because, as usual, I must go into the kitchen now. But will be back at some point to the keyboard.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Doug Schulkind:

I think it finds you "cute," Jeff. (As do we all.)

Avatar 6:01pm ndbob:

got my Indiana drivers license today - one more step towards being a Hoosier
Avatar 6:01pm Carmichael:

Pow! Howdy Doug, what it be, bro?
Avatar 6:02pm kat330:

@ndbob: Well, can't say you weren't fully informed beforehand. ;)
Avatar 6:03pm Carmichael:

You'll have to play something by The Flying Machine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm Doug Schulkind:

Wow! Carmichael, how's it hanging?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm Jeff Golick:

...aaaand now that hellos are out the way, I gotta fly. Bye, all! Catch you in the archives!
Avatar 6:03pm ndbob:

@kat Certainly can't - everyone at DMV here was actually really nice
  6:06pm earrie:

I've been marveling at how tiny birds use their wings to pull their feet sunken deep in the snow. They span them into a large surface area - like flippers.

Ah, wings.
Happy anniversary to those venturing Wrights.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm Doug Schulkind:

Guh-bye, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Doug Schulkind:

Happy Anyday to you, earrie!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Parq:

<puts down packages, waves weakly from doorway>
  6:09pm earrie:

And to you, Doug. And to listeners across all the assorted '-waves.
Avatar 6:09pm kat330:

@ndbob: Ha, well be glad you didn't visit the Floyd Cty. BMV then (and in IN we DO call it the Bmv, not Dmv, like most civilized places). The lady taking photos was obnoxious to the hilt. I was unlucky to be the first in her line that morning, and she took the single worst photo I've had in my life. When I saw it, I asked if I could please have a re-do. No way, José with that witch. :,
Avatar 6:10pm kat330:

Is this one dedicated to the Chinese?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Doug Schulkind:

Howdy Ugly! You're a sight for sore eyes!

Boarding pass, Gary. Shit. You're co-piloting!

Parq, I thought you were Santa at first. With those packages, I mean.
  6:10pm P-90:

.......still fumbling with seatbelt...got two female ends (great news, in other contexts)
Avatar 6:11pm earrie:

Lift. Lift.
I vant leeft.
Avatar 6:12pm kat330:

@P-90: Some would claim you are sitting pretty. ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Doug Schulkind:

@P-90
Two female ends? This is a family show!
Avatar 6:13pm ndbob:

@kat When I told her I was from ND she said "are you really?"_ apparently it was one of thee two states no one had transferred their license from at that branch
Avatar 6:15pm ndbob:

and I registered to vote - one peculiar thing about North Dakota is it's the only state with no voter registration
Avatar 6:16pm kat330:

@ndbob: A sight better (but just) beyond my current BMV pic is a selfie I recently took (trying for the Joan Baez "Noel" album cover look and missing by a mile). You can see that at the bottom right if you click my "cabbit" avatar and scroll down.
Avatar 6:17pm ndbob:

@kat nice photo:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Doug Schulkind:

You've got my vote, ndbob.
Avatar 6:18pm kat330:

ND has no voter registration?!?! Then what the h-double hockeysticks do you do there to count legit votes? Or notify voters of precinct changes, etc.?
Avatar 6:19pm Carmichael:

@soon to be IndyBob: congratulations on your move to civilization. See you at the polls!
Avatar 6:19pm kat330:

Thanks, Bob! Do you still have snow there in B-ton? Ours is gone, and we just saw it's supposed to be 60-70 degrees this weekend?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Doug Schulkind:

This program officially LOVES Mike Cooper, but he knows that.
Avatar 6:20pm Philo Gristle:

Really dug these last two songs (Softley & Cooper).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Doug Schulkind:

Sounds like a law firm: Softley & Cooper, LLC.
Avatar 6:22pm ndbob:

@kat there still is a fair amount of snow (and some ice) around - here about 55 and rainy fri and sat so that should get rid of all the snow
Avatar 6:23pm kat330:

Or an abductor: Cooper Softley.
Avatar 6:23pm ndbob:

nice to be somewhere where snow melts in the winter - unlike ND
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm Doug Schulkind:

Supposed to get up past 50°F in a few days here. Which is a good thing because dog walking on icy sidewalks has been terrifying.
Avatar 6:25pm kat330:

Like the deep notes in Callahan's song about heights.
Avatar 6:26pm kat330:

@Doug: Oh, right, you have a canine member of the household. But surely walking is never *your* duty?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Doug Schulkind:

Callahan was touring with Lonnie Holley earlier this fall. Wow.

I walk the dog every dern night.
Avatar 6:29pm kat330:

Didn't go because you were walking the dog? Oh, that's a Rolling Stones song title I recall. Presume a cover?
Avatar 6:29pm ndbob:

yep - a Rufus Thomas song
Avatar 6:30pm kat330:

Thanks, Bob! Yeah, most of their earliest albums were covers. BUT great taste nonetheless.
Avatar 6:30pm earrie:

Outdoor/Camping sorta places tend to sell pretty good boot grippers. 'traction devices' or somesuch. Galoshes with very pointy edges.
  6:31pm P-90:

"Rufus T." --great name for a dog
Avatar 6:32pm kat330:

Oooh, segue to "Flight #505" -- one to fit tonight's theme.
Avatar 6:33pm Carmichael:

I had a dog once named Otis.
Avatar 6:33pm kat330:

Doug, what IS the name of Lincoln's pooch?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Doug Schulkind:

I should have played something from Flight F.I.N.A.L. on this show!

@kat330
Lincoln's pooch is named Luna.
Avatar 6:33pm earrie:

aka wraparound cleats, I suppose.
Avatar 6:35pm glenn:

they're called crampons. lee valley has good ones, as does mountain equipment co-op.
Avatar 6:35pm kat330:

Ah, well then, fly me to the Luna, wrapping around to the show's earliest moments.
Avatar 6:36pm ndbob:

Yes Doug - ha! - used to have a copy of Flight Final
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Doug Schulkind:

That's a great idea, earrie. I'm serious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Doug Schulkind:

Favorite palindrome: Sit on a potato pan, Otis.
Avatar 6:37pm glenn:

www.mec.ca...
Avatar 6:38pm earrie:

aka crampons. Yeah, glenn!
I sort of want a pair myself.
Avatar 6:38pm Philo Gristle:

Great selections tonight, Doug. The only one I could even come up quickly was "Hurricane Fighter Plane." Still easier than coming up with a list of sailing or motorcycling songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Doug Schulkind:

Those are scaring me, glenn.

Thanks PhiloG!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Artie:

Cramp on, cramp off, as needed.
Avatar 6:39pm earrie:

Yeah, crampons are more for scaling mtns than the galoshey variety. Hoosh, yeah. I was thinking these: www.mec.ca...
Avatar 6:41pm kat330:

Just keep a bag of kitty litter with you at all times. Ice, schmice.
Avatar 6:41pm glenn:

ah. baby crampons.
  6:42pm P-90:

Let's not forget to mention Frank Jacobs, who wrote all those furshlugginer song parodies for MAD, and who remains curiously un-famous and under-appreciated despite his vast contributions to American culture
Avatar 6:42pm Philo Gristle:

@P-90 Nose Job et al?
Avatar 6:43pm earrie:

Baby nothing. They're don't-fall-down-mpons. Not for Everest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Doug Schulkind:

Those are less scary, earrie.

@P-90
Thank you for using "furshlugginer." I hope to see it used at least once per show!
Avatar 6:45pm glenn:

does m.e.c. exist in the states?
Avatar 6:46pm Holly in NC:

Hi everyone!

Mr. Airplane Man?

I do LOVE 'Leaving On a Jet Plane', but am totally OK with being alone in that sentiment.
Avatar 6:46pm kat330:

Hey, Holly! Your season of the witch! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Doug Schulkind:

Yay Holly!
Avatar 6:47pm earrie:

(@glenn there's REI-- no idea how the two compare)
Avatar 6:47pm ndbob:

The doowop MAD LP's are pretty good @Holly actually I do too
Avatar 6:48pm glenn:

will paul pena's original, and so much betterer version of jet airliner be on the playlist?
Avatar 6:48pm kat330:

True story: I won a free RT ticket to NYC by entering some contest ((AA airlines?) on WHY I wanted to win a trip to NYC. I just jokingly wrote "My bags are packed and I'm ready to go" -- and I won! :)
Avatar 6:48pm Carmichael:

I used to memorize those Mad Magazine song parodies. Still remember a lot of them, in fact. Here's to Frank Jacobs!
Avatar 6:49pm kat330:

MAD magazine -- ah, yes, my childhood bible.
Avatar 6:51pm ndbob:

@kat wtg!!
Avatar 6:53pm kat330:

@ndbob: Yep, that free ticket "leg" up is what allowed Philo and me to jet to Helsinki in 2002 for my first meet & greet with the in-laws.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm Gary:

I wondered when we were getting on the love flight.
Avatar 6:54pm northguineahills:

Woah, that's awesome kat!

Thanks Doug!
Avatar 6:55pm kat330:

@NGH: Yeah, it's awesome that I was "weened" on MAD magazine! Ohhh, guess you meant the ticket giveaway. ;)
Avatar 6:55pm Holly in NC:

@kat - best contest win ever! xo

Mad magazine rules.

And also Madlibs!!! I really wish I had a book of Madlibs right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar 7:02pm Philo Gristle:

@glenn I hadn't realized he spent time in Canada. Need to read the rest of his books.
