A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Topic on bying music:

Trying support hard working musicians, I have a habit try to buy their records at the show, since I can be sure that larger part of the money go to the artists themselves and not distributors, retailers, online platforms and stuff.

On the other hand, if I want to be able to really enjoy the show, I do better if I'm familiar with the (new) material. That means I need to buy in advance.

How do you handle it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am

Could I recommend perry, made with pears. It is a wonderful refreshing drink, not quite as demanding as cider but possibly harded to brew. It is fermenting time right now with both crops ready. It has been a good year over here for both fruits.
If you can get downwind of any of these brews, go to it.

I have yet to find a cider over here less than 5% usually around 7%+. You might need a press for the apples to produce a good scrumpy.

Avatar 11:32am
braveness23:

I make 'Apple Jack' from time to time. Time consuming but easy. Get pressed apple cider without preservatives (pasteurized is OK). Put it into a gallon carboy (glass bottle). Put in a pack of champagne yeast. Cover and shake vigorously. Put an airlock on the carboy and store in a warmish dark place. You can leave it to ferment really as long as you like but a week or two should be plenty. Pour your hard cider into a plastic tupperware container and put into a freezer. The water in the cider will freeze but the booze part will not. It will be slushy. Put the slush into a colander and allow the liquid part to drain out. Discard the ice or save to use as the base of mixed drinks. If you like you can put the boozy liquid part back in the freezer and repeat the process. Each time you do this the boozy part becomes more boozy. This is called Apple Jack.

- one's always heard about cider-drinkers in the UK as juvenile low-rent hooligans or something, which never made sense since cider's weak here - but now you explain it's often 7+ over there (& presumably goes down easily)...
