  6:30pm
Marmalade Kitty:

This show is a trip..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yeah - this Chinese boatmen's song reminds me of AmerIndian chants
- & also, there's probably similarity in most 'nautical' music everywhere...
- One theory holds that Social coordination in Work (Work Song) is the origin of Music to a large degree...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...another that - in America, the origin of the word 'Rock' relating to Music is from the method employed in swinging work loads on/off steamboats on the Mississippi (?!)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...which is not what is more widely thot, of course !...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

that last track (kulung of koloboi) gave me the auditory equivalent of rubbing your hand on the carpet for a long time.

Hello! I just rolled home listening to this show after a semi-epic day of feasting on foods from around the world. We started at an Iranian place, Kabob on the Cliff, in Cliffside Park, NJ. Very tasty. They had amazing, odd rice pudding w/great texture.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
Ike:

Their slogan was "we are committed to bringing to you the outmost kabobing experience."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Mike East:

I didnt know kabob could be used as a verb. thats awesome
Avatar 8:31pm
david_:

hi all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
Ike:

But that's not all! Then next door we found amazing desserts. Not sure of the cuisine, maybe Turkish? And then....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...if you were bouncing in water, eating a kabob, & skewering something simultaneously - you could be bobbing, kabobing, & shishkabobing all @ once...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm
Mike East:

turkish sweets are the sweetest sweets
  8:42pm
Robert:

What's all this about Hanoi Jane?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...it says that Austin City Limits tonight will have Jim James solo & the Black Angels on
...both ACL & Faye Archive I believe - as I think they'll overlap an hour
...my wine glass is feeling empty & neglected...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm
Ike:

I *think* the place was Istanbul Borek on Palisade Ave. in Cliffside Park. Very strongly recommended. And then later we walked to a Guatemalan cafe in Fairview, and had a great atol de elote, which is a hot corn drink. Corn! Of all things. It works.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...too much of what we eat & drink has high fructose corn syrup in it - might as well drink it w/ less processing ! Horchata is a favorite...your drink *&* your desert in one...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- & mango lassi (Indian) !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm
Ike:

I just uploaded some of my food adventure pics from today to my FMU profile, click on my name to see them. The rice pudding is my avatar pic for the moment.

where/how might one acquire this AMAZING Garland Encyclopedia of World Music??!! so . . . MESMERIZING!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Ike:

Our last stop was an Armenian church food bazaar. It was really good. Then I drove my friends to a bus stop and I put on FMU & I think one of my foodie friends fell in love with Donna's show. Ha. Good way to end.
  8:56pm
Donna:

the cds accompanied the books, which were sold as a set, for over 2 grand or there abouts. you can now find the books used, separately in the 150ish range.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...as a crude overview?? - seems Rob's style is pleasantly disorienting whirlwind excursions across cultures into spirited & festive aspects of music
- whereas Donna here is into longer & trancier explorations w/ more focus on Asia...(?)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- both a wonderful pleasure & a schoolin' for me, of course...
Avatar 9:04pm
slugluv1313:

thanks, Donna! yes, i had a feeling they would be way expen$ive -- but sooooo WORTH IT!!!
