Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from October 4, 2013 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Favoriting October 4, 2013: That's not dead air. That's silent fundraising.

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

It's October at WFMU and that means it's time for 31 days of (mostly) silent fundraising. I'll also be spending less than a minute of each of this month's Hinky Dinky Time broadcasts mentioning this..

It would be great if you could help me help support WFMU. This fall, in addition to supporting general operations, donations will also help fund the completion of the new public performance space in the ground floor of WFMU's building in Jersey City, NJ. This space will add value to WFMU not only for those able to attend performances in person but also for all of the WFMU listeners that will be treated to live and archived events broadcast from there.

Here's a little background on that project:

"Little by little, we're raising money to renovate the ground floor and turn it into a multi-media performance space and radio theater. Most radio stations that do this spend millions of dollars from mega-donors - we're just doing it small step by small step, and now we're at the step of being able to invite the public in for live music, broadcasts, performances, films, art shows and other special events."

"Earlier this year we used listener donations to convert the space from a boring office into an empty room with a stage. This Fall we need to raise $200,000 to bring the space up to code and purchase basic audio equipment so that we can start hosting public events."
What will the money go towards?
  • Building two Disable-Person-Accessible restrooms for the performance space (this is required before we can open to the public).
  • Purchasing basic equipment for the performance space.
Supporters WFMU and Give the Drummer Radio may be eligible for elegant swag, some of it new and never-before-seen, depending on how much you give. You can check that out at https://www.wfmu.org/marathon/pledge.php?pr=HD.

Thanks...Uncle Michael

Poor old Bee Gees, here in the UK had the piss taken out of them so much. Thanks, mainly in part to having done those disco hits and having such white teeth. Anyway, from what I hear played on WFMU, they were a decent band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm
Uncle Michael:

They're a punchline here too. I don't care.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm

Angels...singing my song.
Avatar 12:45pm

I never particularly like the Bee Gees, but I watched Bee Gees: In Our Own Time and I gained a respect for them. I think that disco stuff was actually pretty good when I hear it now. It was just played to death back in the day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm
Uncle Michael:

I agree completely. They also were a little too caught up in letting the marketplace be a critic....dismissing their own work as bad if it didn't sell.
