Bill Barron was a wonderful player. He was the older brother of pianist Kenny Barron. Bill was a long-time teacher at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. Back in the early '80s, Bill's wife typed my sisters honor's thesis.
Bill Barron's "Hot Line" is outrageously good. "Modern Windows Suite" is terrific, too. Also look for a number of albums Barron made with trumpeter Ted Curson. "Now, Hear This!" credited to the "Bill Barron, Ted Curson Orchestra" is fabulous. Barron plays on Curson's "The New Thing & The Blue Thing." And several others. All good.
@hyde: admittedly, there is a lot of Air to go around, but I just love Threadgill when he plays more "in." Especially as that is REALLY not his bag now.
Just seen the time. Oh boy, better feed the animals and prepare some human food. The downside of the stream, I cannot listen on the internet radio. Isn't life tragic.
The last two days have got chill over here when the sun goes down, summer has gone. Thanks for the sounds, gents.
Haven't chimed in, as there are many suits from City Hall going back and forth, and I'm sure how some of them might take the image above (especially since every time my crappy browser refreshes, it goes back to the top).
@ngh: Not fans of Judy Garland, you mean? No sure re Soul Jazz reissues! Lake's discography is not in the best shape. He's got some stuff that was on Gramavision, now OOP.
