True fact: I played Salieri in a high school production of AMADEUS. Still not entirely sure how that happened.

jeff did you get to say "I speak for all mediocrities in the world. I am their champion. I am their patron saint." BEST LINE EVER!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm

Yeah. That was a tough one to pull off. Not that I needed help with my motivation there...

Are the "play loud" comments sincere requests to turn up the volume of the show?

this set is killer! (& the volume sounds OK to me as is...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm

Thanks, hyde. A full three hours of AEC would of course be killer all by itself. Guess who had a birthday last week?

Bill Barron? Billy Harper?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
pacific standard simon:

This is about the time I usually have to rush off to work, but it's an unexpected off day. What to do?

@Brian - Billy Barty?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:38pm
Doug Schulkind:

Bill Barron was a wonderful player. He was the older brother of pianist Kenny Barron. Bill was a long-time teacher at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. Back in the early '80s, Bill's wife typed my sisters honor's thesis.

@Doug now that's the kind of background detail that keeps me tuning in!

Jeff took a short sojourn to the countryside twas peaceful and starry at night.

Would recommend Niccolò Ammaniti, this Italian gentlemans books are funny but also gives an view into modern day Italy.

@Doug, Bill Barron. Thank you, sir. Any recommendations? Open to anyone here.

Doug Schulkind:

Bill Barron's "Hot Line" is outrageously good. "Modern Windows Suite" is terrific, too. Also look for a number of albums Barron made with trumpeter Ted Curson. "Now, Hear This!" credited to the "Bill Barron, Ted Curson Orchestra" is fabulous. Barron plays on Curson's "The New Thing & The Blue Thing." And several others. All good.

Just kiddin'.

Jeff, is Coming Through Slaughter as good as Ondatejee's fiction?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm
Jeff Golick:

@Brian: YES, though it, too, is fiction!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm
Jeff Golick:

@hyde: admittedly, there is a lot of Air to go around, but I just love Threadgill when he plays more "in." Especially as that is REALLY not his bag now.

Didn't Soul Jazz do a bunch of Oliver Lake reissues?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm

@ngh: Not fans of Judy Garland, you mean? No sure re Soul Jazz reissues! Lake's discography is not in the best shape. He's got some stuff that was on Gramavision, now OOP.
