Avatar 12:02pm Cecile:

Ok, Joe, two things.
I saw the World's End and laughed out loud when they referenced the quote from the Wild Ones.

Second, can I ask Barrence some weird questions?
  12:02pm KevinWho:

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Bayou Country!

Hello all. Joe you are screaming right out of the gate!
I like Dave's version of GooD:
www.youtube.com...
Avatar 12:09pm Cecile:

Why did Ow, ow, ow, ow sound so slick compared to the first 2 records? Were you happy with it?

How did the collaborations with Tom Russell come about?
Avatar 12:11pm Cecile:

What brought you and Peter back together?

Do you think the success of people as disaparate as Sharon Jones, Amy Winehouse and Cee-Lo doing more classic r'n'b music made the climate ready for your triumphant return?
Avatar 12:12pm Cecile:

Have you met any kids conceived to your music?

Finally, are you going to play Minneapolis any time soon? Have you ever?
Avatar 12:12pm Cecile:

I'm done here, for now. hahahhaa
Avatar 12:13pm Joe B:

Ok thanks! some of those were on my list already!
Avatar 12:13pm dc pat:

Good question about Owowow. I wondered about that myself. I have a question: why is Girl From Outer Space the greatest song ever?
Avatar 12:16pm dc pat:

Hey Cecile, I was in a group that opened for Barrence too.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 12:17pm tim from champaign:

Hey Joe and folks!
Avatar 12:18pm Cecile:

Hahahhaha, your opening schedule sounds as random as my brain!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 12:19pm tim from champaign:

  12:41pm KevinWho:

@tim from champaign: (Canadian) dollars
  12:43pm John L.:

Everytime I hear "Our House" I want to break something. I saw that they were playing a "Bridge" show, but a tour is still only a possibility. I've been re-reading parts of "Shakey." I love his remarks on Woodstock. I get the evil-eye whenever I point them out to people in this area. Woodstock is like Lourdes up here.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 12:44pm tim from champaign:

Hey man, canadian dollars are where it's at. Did everyone read David Yow's Onion interview where he talked about "Love The One You're With" as his most hated song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Interviewer : What did Woodstock change - ?
Pete Townshend: It changed *me* - I *hated* it !!...
  12:47pm John L.:

By the time we got to Woodstock...they had moved it to Bethel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Parq:

Don't remember whether it was Townshend or someone else, but I remember somebody being quoted in one of the Joplin bios as saying something along the lines of, I can always tell when someone is lying about having been at Woodstock -- as soon as they start talking about how wonderful it was, I know they weren't there.
Avatar 12:49pm glenn:

what about canadian dollars?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Some details : www.amazon.com... ...
Avatar 12:54pm glenn:

we're at about 96 c u.s. today.
Avatar 12:58pm Cecile:

pat todd!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 12:59pm tim from champaign:

What do you call a prog rock hobo?
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 12:59pm tim from champaign:

A super tramp.
Avatar 1:02pm Cecile:

Even seeing the doc - there were traffic jams, tons of mud, no food, gatecrashers. It was a testament to the mellowness of the people that it didn't turn into a mess like it did in '99
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Parq:

Hi gang. A little news of the day. It is alleged that a woman in Montana got mad at her husband on their honeymoon and pushed him off a cliff. Fellas, be sweet to your wives tonight.
www.cnn.com...
Avatar 1:03pm Cecile:

but even as an idealistic teen I knew WS wasn't a utopia, it was people making the best of a bad situation.
Avatar 1:05pm Cecile:

YAYAYYAYAYAY!
Avatar 1:06pm dc pat:

holygoddamcrap! Blind Shake is skipping dc ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Parq:

There's a band called "the Blind Sheik"? Is there also one called "Lynn Stewart in the Slammer"?
Avatar 1:09pm Cecile:

Blind Shake, Parq. hahaha
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 1:10pm tim from champaign:

The new Barrence Whitfield rekkid is pretty smokin.
Avatar 1:10pm Cecile:

Yeah, new question. Why doesn't Barrence cover Get Out of Denver?
  1:11pm KevinWho:

@tim from champaign: CLAP CLAP CLAP
  1:12pm KevinWho:

I meant about the Supertramp pun earlier, but that too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I giggled - but Supertramp is Prog - ?!??
  1:14pm KevinWho:

like Genesis, their biggest records were not, but yes
Avatar 1:14pm Cecile:

they are deffo prog-pop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

ProgPop!
...Kansas on helium...
  1:16pm KevinWho:

Crime Of The Century is a landmark prog record, or prog-pop if you prefer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Parq:

There was always a big gap between "prog" in the Henry Cow sense and "prog" in the Kansas sense. We really should have come up with two different genre names.
Avatar 1:17pm Joe B:

supertramp = awful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Matt F:

Thanks Joe! Check's in the mail...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yes Parq
- or maybe there's just good & poo in every Genre...
  1:19pm John L.:

Supertramp were more proggy in their early days. Kind of Gabriel-era Genesis. Then they sold out, man. I had my share of Supertramp and Kansas records. Hey, it was Long Island in the 70's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...or Real & Fake in every Genre (plenty of shite bands labeled 'Punk')...
Avatar 1:21pm Cecile:

I liked Bloody Well Right because I was in OZ at the time and they were swearing.
Avatar 1:22pm Cecile:

goddamn. The Hives never disappoint.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Parq:

RR11/63, the Supertramp-Kansas-REO Speedwagon prog had such distinct characteristics that I think it really should have its own genre name. On the other hand, if you would like that genre name to be "poo", I am perfectly willing to discuss it.
  1:23pm KevinWho:

!@#$% love this Hives
  1:23pm KevinWho:

(threw in a swear for Cecile)
Avatar 1:24pm Cecile:

American pop-prog.
And REO were a boogie band that went pop thanks to Kevin Cronin of the painfully sharp enunciation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...people talk they're writing off the Hives as a Novelty Band - so were the Beatles (bugs? funny hair?), Dolls, Ramones...
- PooProg...Everybody Progs...
  1:25pm KevinWho:

enunciation bracket #1: Kevin Cronin vs. Dennis DeYoung
Avatar 1:25pm Cecile:

I bought their hit CD a few years back, for 50 cents and it was one of the greatest bargains of my life. I have never seen a used CD copy that wasn't banged up.
Avatar 1:31pm Cecile:

OK, the best Sonics cover ever.
  1:31pm KevinWho:

never heard this Shot Down version before
Avatar 1:32pm Cecile:

WELCOME BARRENCE!
  1:32pm KevinWho:

whoa, great!
Avatar 1:35pm dc pat:

Lyres were amazing.
Avatar 1:36pm dc pat:

You said it Joe--my phone is filled up with the original versions of Savages covers!
Avatar 1:38pm Cecile:

we heard about them in the Midwest even in fanzine days. The Boston fanzines went wild.
Avatar 1:41pm Cecile:

DUDE. That has to be a single.
Avatar 1:41pm dc pat:

Hey, I've heard Barrence play the Immigrant Song!! At Penn State, does he remember that?? like 1990?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Matt F:

I worked at the Coop too!
Avatar 1:45pm Cheri Pi:

Cincinnati!
Avatar 1:48pm Cecile:

phone rang, is he coming to MN
Avatar 1:52pm dc pat:

WHOOPS!
Avatar 1:52pm Cecile:

oscar levant! awesome.
Avatar 1:55pm Cecile:

I bow down to the person who rhymed "underpants" with "Oscar Levant".
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 1:56pm tim from champaign:

Cool interview. Nice guy!
Avatar 1:56pm dc pat:

Thanks Joe, very cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- nicely arranged & recorded as well as played.
Avatar 1:58pm dc pat:

yeah, sonics + barrence = heaven.
Avatar 1:58pm Cheri Pi:

He just out Soniced the Sonics
  1:58pm KevinWho:

he botched the Levant quote, it's much more of an inyourendo
  2:00pm KevinWho:

"Now that Marilyn Monroe is kosher, Arthur Miller can eat her"
  2:01pm John L.:

I love Oscar Levant, the song and the man. Check out some YT clips for a view of his neurosis. Great in "An American In Paris" and "Bandwagon." Someone should make a movie about him.
Avatar 2:03pm Cecile:

Joe, what happened to Strata Bowling?
Avatar 2:09pm Joe B:

it has been retired
Avatar 2:09pm Joe B:

thanks Kevin and John. Oh, now I know who that is!
Avatar 2:12pm Fernando M Pacheco:

That's the hit of the year. I can't get tired of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Stevel:

Late, but never better.

So much Barrence Whitfield to catch up on!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm efd:

Avatar 2:37pm KOTJ:

Avatar 2:54pm Cecile:
