Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from September 6, 2013 Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

What's the origin of the name Topeka?
Avatar 11:56am

Never mind. "Topeka means "to dig good potatoes" in the languages of the Kansa and the Ioway." (Says wikipedia.)

@βrian: Different Natives, but the same vegatable.

Some towns in the US were named after Native American Chiefs by William Clark of Lewis & Clark. He was in charge of "Indian Affairs" for a large region, and while he was part of the whole system of displacing the Native Americans, he also was sad about it, and named towns after certain Chiefs to keep their names frombeing forgotten. He also commisioned portraites of some of them too. Can't say he was all good or all bad, but that sometimes history gets complicated and messy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm
Alex In Illinois:

@Uncle Michael:
I have not had that in years! When I was a kid (in Missouri), we used have that about every week in the summer. Other evenings, it was cold potato soup, or cold cucumber soup.

Hmm. It is kind of strange that people here in the Chicago area do not have cold soup in the summer all the time.
