Every show starts with the ’70s! We’ll rediscover forgotten rockers, revisit unfairly maligned disco beats and replay power-pop favorites. Next: plenty of new releases, occasional live bands and more. Don’t let the nickname confuse you.

August 28, 2013: 5th nearly-annual Disco/Dance Party!
Listen to this show:
Pop-up player!
Summertime always reminds me of listening to Ken "Spider" Webb and Ricky Ricardo and, of course the Chief Rocker Frankie Crocker on WBLS. In that spirit, I present the 5th mostly-annual Evan "Funk" Davies Disco/Dance Party! I'll be spinning some classic jams of the mid-'70s and early '80s, along with some lesser-known nuggets. It's the kind of show that makes you say "I haven't heard this in 35 years" and "why haven't I heard this before?!" so if you love the nightlife you'll tune in!
======================================= Disco disclaimer! I'm keeping the lines blurry and using "disco" as a catch-all term for my own take on fun dance music from the mid-70s to the early '80s, expanding the boundaries (and sound) of the traditional disco era. No griping, please! Just be good to me! Like The Evan "Funk" Davies Show on Facebook, and follow me on Twitter! |

Anyone frequent the legendary Downstairs Records in NYC back in the day? Warren Tesoro from there was in the Gary Toms Empire.

My hometown station was great but in summer of 78 visited NYC shortly after WKTU signed as an all disco station. Incredible! Visited in summer of 79 and 92KTU DOMINATED. Roller boogie had taken over Central Park.

I miss my Nike roller skates. Our roller rink played more Van Halen than disco, however.
