Hiya, Jason, and good morning. Your natural voice is an improvement over the robotic-Jason, just my opinion.

Good morning Jason and Sem Chumbo

HI, fred. Is the country still on vacation?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12am

Pretty much, but not me

greetingz - yes, most of the country is basically shut down for a month, except for Fred and me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16am

Though I have to take next week off again. I'd rather get money instead, but this isn't happening this year

ausmanx:

good evening djelbogen and everyone. i am wondering if Los Issifu is a little ecumenical... are there recordings by L. I. and his Jews, or L. I. and his Christadelphians, or L.I. and his Satanists?
Avatar 7:21am
Jason Elbogen:

Aus--

Maybe the Issifu cover will make the answer clear?
Avatar 7:31am
ausmanx:

well, as that's the Taj Mahal in the corner of the cover, L.I. is quite cosmopolitan, at least... molto ethnic, for sure.
Avatar 7:38am
Jason Elbogen:

I'm not accidentally playing this song twice this set, am I?
Avatar 7:44am

right, chanson éternelle = eternal song (and as for me, I didn't hear the Ubayd Salim song twice)

Thanks Thibault, I'm a bit distracted today. I found out yesterday that my boss made a typo when emailing me about a submission deadline: it's not 9/30, it's 9/3.

This unknown Hattie Whittle LP is amazing, I think. Can't find any info about her anywhere--picked up the LP a couple weeks back in NYC.

worst beatle song, eva!

jason - notice you have a leaning to unconventional singers - are you drawn to the authenticity of the spirit in which those songs are sung - as opposed to the clinical delivery of... lost my train of thought.
  8:06am
Marmalade Kitty:

lyrically awful, that is.. Nice instrumentally.
Avatar 8:11am
Jason Elbogen:

Hamburgler,
I think that 'out-of-tune' voices appeal because the 'in-tune' traditional singing is 99% of what people hear. So, the unconventional singers are, pretty simply, more interesting to me in general? Maybe. I've got nothing against traditionally-great singers, either, but I'm sorta open to everything maybe? Maybe a short attention span? I don't know...

Actually I think I'm addicted to hearing/discovering new-t0-me music/sounds...

PKNY:

When did Dire Straits do a song about AIDS?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- 'AIDS' sounded like Joe Strummer...
- I have wondered out loud if anyone has used Autotune yet to put something *out* of tune to sound *authentic*...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Dave Davies of the Kinks said he thot guitar-tuners ruined Rock - much less Autotune...
Avatar 8:43am
Cheri Pi:

You're right Berg, I was trying to keep it simple for him. baby steps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48am
fred:

@RevRab: re: autotune. That looks hard to pull off, I guess you could put something *exactly* out of tune, but you'd have to add some variations to sound authentic.
I've seen TG Gondard use autotune pedals live, in part because they won't stay properly configured for long. That adds an element of randomness that I like a lot, though you can't call that *authentic*

Good morning, party people! Enjoying the show, Jason.

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I have theorized that just as every Continent / Culture has it's own Metaphysical system (it's own 'Qabbalah', if you will)
- they each have their own Musical Scale - in fact corresponding to the Metaphysics ('Music of the Spheres' sort of idea)
- hence the use of what 'we' (WesternEuropean cultural tradition) call 'microtones' & such - & the 'blue note' in African-American music that is both/neither Major or Minor (- is it Happy or Sad?)
- & in fact this is true for Tonalities / Timbres as well (the desirability of a twang or a buzz as opposed to a 'pure' sound)
- so what is 'in tune' is subjective & a big subject anyhow !...

SeanG:

VAMOS!

Polk Biggins:

what @Revolution Rabbit Nov63 said about D Davies...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53am
fred:

@RevRab: as it happens, I'm working on a tonality detection software at the moment. The western kind, for a scientific evaluation campaign
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- I think singers - esp. notable/commonly heard in 'African-American tradtion' - going 'out-of-tune' can correspond to a voice breaking w/ emotion - & 'resonates' for this reason. In Free Jazz horns I hear animal sounds - which calls to mind what Antonin Artaud said the mise en scene & such in 'Theatre & it's Double'...The Music will reflect the Environment & the Psychology...
- 'A scientific evaluation campaign' ?

- you can tell someone their fly is open as a favor
- but put that uniform on & people become harassment machines...all in how it's done...autotune the cop give him a pleasant demeanor...
