Lovely, as always, to find you on the air, Miss Laura. And you're accepting comments! (If not, exactly, offering a playlist.) Enjoying your exegesis of Cowboy Jack tremendously.

- appreciated CountrySwing up top
- & appreciate the history lesson re Sun & Cash - &tc.
...Slight tangent but Genre correct :
- Do you know that documentary about Sgt. Fitch & Sarge Records of Texas ?? (sargrecords.com...)
...saw it on PBS & really liked it...

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...aside from some Country-CountrySwing-Rockabilly in Texas deep history, it touches on Indie labels, record-collecting - things I think FMUheads would appreciate...

That air-conditioned tune really cooled my evening down to baby-frost ease.

Great to hear you DJing Laura. Yours was one of the first shows I started listening to on WFMU. Perfect sounds for a Sunday evening.

Great Cantrell show as ever (never got a chance to say that before). Solid tribute making my work easier. One of the first 45s I ever owned was a copy of "The One on the Right" that my political grandparents got me in 66 or so.

Ms. Proprietress! So good to hear The Radio Thrift Shop again! Saw Johnny at Carnegie Hall--'64---he sang "I keep my pants on with a piece of twine; Please say you're mine, and pull the twine"...brought the house down!

adam:

sorry, i just zoned out, what are you playing right now? with the female vocalist..."pushing up against a stone..." wow
  8:45pm
adam:

never mind figured it out. thanks for playing, great stuff!

cavorting with nudists:

Hugh: Now that's weird. My older brothers had some albums by groups like the New Christy Minstrels released back in the early-60s commercial folk boom, and there was definitely a live cut on one of them that was some dude doing a parody of country music, including those lyrics set to "I Walk the Line." Got a big laugh from the audience. So was the New Christy Minstrels (or whoever) dude simply relaying Johnny Cash's in-concert goof, or did Johnny Cash parrot the New Christy Minstrels (or whoever) dude's parody figuring a laugh was a laugh?

Great show. Listening carefully to see who was in the last set.

Thanks, Laura!

cavorting with nudists:

Well, if anyone cares, I looked around for a minute on Google and found the "Please Pull the twine" lyrics attributed to Johnny himself, the New Christy Minstrels, the Smothers Brothers, and Bobby Darin. And here's a video of Roger Miller singing it while sitting next to Johnny Cash: https://plus.google.com/100542951519486111563/posts/RD4BhUFFCtN
