it's unsurprising that a gif of Fred Astaire is the smoothest and most graceful gif I've ever seen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52am Doug Schulkind:

This gif is taken from an amazing scene in Easter Parade. Fred dances around the toy store dancing and banging on drums. He does an even more amazing drum/dance in another film. Can't remember the title just now.

@Listener James from Westwood:
I too was disappointed when I first watched the Watergate hearings and did not get to see a dam break. A year or so later, there was a movie called "Earthquake" that had a dam break in it. I think that was to satisfy those of us who wanted to see dams breaking after hearing the word "watergate" so many times.

Yeah Nusrat Ali Khan died when I took a break from my summer semester in and the beginning of my senior fall semester of college. I had just come back from a road trip to Atlanta.

Similarly, Kurt Cobain died when I was senior in HS when I was packing to go on an off road biking trip, and my friend's very Christian little sister told us the news, and we thought she was making it up.
  10:56am Elias:

Doug, I was born in Allen Memorial Hospital in 1971. My brother attended Oberlin College from 1985-1989, so I had a full Oberlin College social life while attending Oberlin High School. When I was a kid we had MASSIVE and deadly peashooter wars in Mudd Library. Peashooters sound innocuous, but they are the machine gun of the toy world. Do you remember Norm Care? I bought his drumkit ans still own it!

Jesus, that story brings back all kinds of memories. Wow! There is one LP from the WOBC library I really wish I had stolen. It is a Tammy Wynette record. A 12-inch special promotional version of "Stand By Your Man." It was released as a means of rallying support for Ronald Reagan early in his first term, when the economy was in the shit and he was quite unpopular. During this version of "Stand By Your Man," Wynette interjects spoken passages between the choruses exhorting American's to stand by Reagan. During one passage she says "Stand by your man, be he peasant or president," except she i SWEAR TO GOD says the word pheasant. I can't fucking believe I didn't steal or at least make a cassette copy of that record.

Years later, I actually called someone up at WOBC and they looked in the library and couldn't find the record. I've been searching for it ever since.

@NGH
I'm sure Tunde would say the same about you.

When I was working in downtown Jacksonville in 2000, I was walking by the city's main library and there was a sign saying there was LP sale. All records were 50 cents each. There was everything from Varese, Schoenberg, Stockhausen, Cage, Henry, Braxton, Art Ensemble of Chicago, and some weird Electronic LPs from the 70s. Each LP was 50 cents. It took two trips w/ the records piled past my eyes to get them to my car (no bags were provided, and I didn't have any w/ me that day. It was a good day. Most of the records had only been checked out once or twice, and the last time they had been checked out was back in the 70s.
  11:22am Elias:

Doug, you said it! Just mentioning WOBC and Mudd bring back the most hilarious of thoughts. My brother DJ'ed at some sort of class reunion a few years ago at the "sco" and nobody had used the turntables all semester. Luckily after a good dusting the party was turned out. That town was, and I think still is to some extent, a great place for Our Gang style antics. We used to pile all the beanbag chairs up and jump from the third to the second floor at Mudd sometimes in an escape manuever. Nothing beats watching ten year olds jumping like lemmings over a railing. I will embark on a Wynette-quest on your behalf. Anyway, there's a record coming your way, I'll send you a picture and you will be all a-chuckle.

Our next performer is NOT the serial murderer by the same name. Just saying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Gary:

I'll withhold my "Adam's killin it" remark, then

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Stanley:

Really wild, er, General.
Avatar 11:31am northguineahills:

Jon Appleton & Don Cherry. Unfortunately, I only got to see the former play live.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Jeff Golick:

Uh, hi.
This Adam Lane teaches music at the elementary school my kids go to.
Have always felt pretty lucky about that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Hugo:

Lotsa good stuff out on the Cadence/CIMP labels over the years, but slightly inactive these days?
Avatar 🥁 11:33am duke:

This set is great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Doug Schulkind:

Are you ... sure ... it's not the other Adam Lane, Jeff? Be safe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Doug Schulkind:

Hugo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am Jeff Golick:

Prreeetttty sure. Ran into Lane and his fam earlier this summer at a rest stop along I-95 in Connecticut.
Avatar 11:35am northguineahills:

Adam Lane, new to me, and digged!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Jeff Golick:

It's been said that Lane's wife and mine look alike. I've tried switching but it didn't fly.

Lane has played great with Darius Jones in recent years/groupings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Gary:

This Orchestre Essogbe de Porto-Novo song is insane great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff Golick
Be careful, the "other" Adam Lane was dubbed the Highway Killer. So of course you saw him at a rest stop on I-95.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am Doug Schulkind:

This Fela track is dedicated to my powerful and glorious wife Jessie, who is very much an "entity."
