I've only seen Daniel Higgs once, and on that occasion he came with two Indian musicians (playing tabla and harmonium) he said he had met in a bar a few days before. And it worked

It's pure self-interest: I look at who played an unfamiliar artist when deciding whether to go to a show. Anyone you played would translate to "I have to go" (though I've seen Orphan Fairy Tale)
