Like Wow!
  12:33pm paula pc:

still a huge favorite, those Hoodoo Gurus
  12:36pm Thierry from France:

Hi Joe! Here's a few Maxwell's 80's memories to start. Aside from world famous combos (Jonathan Richman, Hûsker Dû, Yo La Tengo, and countless others):
- A great Hoboken band: Gut Bank, with a great drummer!
- Another from Hoboken: Tiny Lights with a great singer
- The Golden Palominos 'sunday workshops' (you would have paid anytime to see these guys rehearse)
- Mekons regular shows
Avatar 12:40pm Sean B.:

Wayne Kramer...=yes.
Avatar 12:41pm Nanker de Tucson:

JoeB -- I'm doing an Arbitron Ratings diary now and have your 3 hr 3CM block, 9 a.m. to noon here, already inked into it. Enjoy the ratings bump from ~2,500 miles away! ;-)
  12:44pm Thierry from France:

Wasn't that 4th band The Subsonics?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Greg from VA:

Nice version of the MC5's Kick Out The Jams, almost makes one feel like they were back at the Grande Ballroom!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Nate K:

Really great set Joe!
  12:50pm paula pc:

when I think Maxwell's, I think guitars and heavy heavy drums
Avatar 12:51pm Joe B:

Hi everybody! thanks for tuning in! appreciate it!

Thierry, might have been. can't recall. Thanks Nate!
Avatar 12:51pm Sean B.:

Hmmmm...I did not realise that Peter Prescott of MOB formed Volcano Suns;Great band!,Pete is one crazy funny guy,and an underrated drummer for sure.
  12:53pm frenchee:

Joe B! Knocking it outta the park AGAIN.

Dontcha ever get tired, BEEEEEEEEEELOCCCCCCCKKKK?
  12:55pm Thierry from France:

Yes Joe, and Ira Kaplan was behind the sound console, engineering most of these shows.
  12:55pm frenchee:

nobody take my head off for this, please, but doesn't this Screaming Trees singer sound just a smidge like Beck?
  12:57pm paula pc:

what a set -- painfully great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Nate K:

@Frenchee no decapitation necessary, but I've never really heard it. Mark Lanegan always sounded like what I imagine a corpse that got that way because of booze and smokes would sound like if said corpse had a really awesome voice.
  12:59pm common:

nice!
  12:59pm drr:

That Dinosaur track reminded me of why I liked that band in the first place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm eyenoise:

Hit after hit!
Avatar 1:00pm Joe B:

never heard a Bec comparison ... the one I used to hear the most with lanegan was Jim Morrison
  1:00pm Sean:

Holy guacamole, Joe. You are KILLING IT today!!
Avatar 1:01pm Joe B:

KOTJ, great news! I heard Felice had toruble with carpel tunnl or something liek that
  1:02pm frenchee:

Jim Morrison? I don't hear that at all, but corpse....yeah a little.
Hi Nate K!

oooh Flaming Lips soooooo goooooood
Avatar 1:02pm jljl:

Joe, Felice has a few troubles, the carpel may be the least of them.
Avatar 1:03pm KOTJ:

Joe Sean's right. Real Kids...Rick said the only problem is the problems that always plagued the band but when it's time to record...they're on.
  1:03pm Thierry from France:

terribly sorry, just got it, you were answering about the Woggles show.
Avatar 1:05pm Sean B.:

I ended up aquiring a promo CD of MOB's catalogue shortly after being picked up by Rhino for a stint from yours truly Peter Prescott; He was working at Mystery Train records,I did not even know it was him behind the counter when I asked him "You got any Burma?"....I walked out not even knowing it was him;until after...[Ahhhh the joy of irony]
Killing it Joe!.
Avatar 1:12pm Tom from Detroit:

gojo!

What are the plans for maxwells, has/is it to be sold?
Avatar 1:47pm Joe B:

not sure. did you catch Todd A on Aerial View a couple weeks ago? Lotta info in there!
  1:50pm John L.:

I was probably at this show. Do you remember who else was on the bill?
Avatar 1:51pm Joe B:

Holly Golightly and The Biongolian
  1:52pm Marmalade Kitty:

It's a shame.Maxwells definitely is a place I would'a loved to have check out .. !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Mike Sin:

I know it sounds weird, but I'm not really that angry or sad that Maxwell's is closing. The reasons make sense and it goes out on top. In addition, I've been attending wonderful shows at the club since I was 19 years old (I'm now well into my 40s), so it's been such a major part of music-geek life for 25+ years -- But, I never want to take for granted the years of luck and joy. I feel I've been luckier than most because there are a lot of folks who haven't been fortunate enough to have a club be such a big part of a great social life for so many years.

For me, and this is just me of course, complaining about Maxwell's closing is like being left with a million dollars' worth of memories but then complaining it's not two million... nah-mean?

Actually, there should be more 19 year old music fans complaining that they won't experience there what all the old fukks are reminiscing about!
Avatar 1:55pm Joe B:

well said Mike!
  1:57pm frenchee:

oh MIKE SIN, you're so eloquent. Nah-mean?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm efd:

Mike Sin, telling it like it t-i-is!
Avatar 1:58pm Joe B:

plus the last 15 years really were bonus years. July 26 marked 15 years to the date of the reopening with Neutral Milk Hotel
Avatar 2:02pm Tom from Detroit:

Mike Sin always the eloquent one. For my part, I drove by Second Chance (Ann Arbor's Maxwell's - closed about 10 years) on Sunday and still can't accept it. Same with a couple of other places there.
  2:05pm John L.:

Yep. I was at that show. And yes, Mike S. I pretty much agree. I just wanted Maxwell's to go on until my knees give out. I always said that when I have to sit down for a show I give up going.
  2:07pm Marmalade Kitty:

The soul of Maxwells! Big love! :)
  2:08pm Dan Eletxro:

Well said, Mike Sin. Maxwell's always felt like a bit of a homecoming whenever we returned for shows there. So many great friends, great times, great music. And also a very cordial, top notch staff that made one feel welcome! I shall miss that place. Thanks, Todd Abramson!
  2:22pm Marmalade Kitty:

has anyone been taking momentos from the club? fixtures, fittings, pieces etc... :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm efd:

phew, got back to my desk with lunch just in time for "My Baby Likes To Boogaloo!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm efd:

Of course now I'm trying to eat lunch without swaying back and forth.
  2:24pm Marmalade Kitty:

that'd be naughty!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Matt F:

Pretty sure I could hear Bill Peitsch yelling from the audience at the very end of the set there...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Eugene:

Having only ever been old enough to go to shows during Maxwell's second wind, I can't really believe how close I was to never experiencing it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm efd:

First time I saw fIREHOSE was on a bill with YLT at Maxwell's, sometime in the early '90s I think?
  2:46pm John L.:

I was thrown out of a 7-11 once. Ah, memories.
Avatar 2:50pm Nanker de Tucson:

Tip 'o the cap to JoeB for another excellent show today!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 2:52pm tim from champaign:

Great show today, Joe. It was fun rocking down memory lane with you.
  2:52pm Woo:

Excellent show, Joe. The Rascals will be playing Come On Up at Mohegan Sun in a coupla weeks.
Avatar 2:54pm Joe B:

thanks everybody for listening and for the kind words! appreciate it! maybe see you wednesday in hoblowken?
  2:56pm John L.:

Andy Shernoff did this, acoustic, up here a few weeks ago. Audience did a nice sing-a-long. See you tomorrow, probably.
