Favoriting July 27, 2013: At Ease, Soldier!

Upcoming event:

Saturday, August 10th, 3am - 6am: Brother JT Live in WFMU's Love Room - Warm's the New Cool
John Terlesky (aka Brother JT) is an author, painter, talk show host, animator, and sometimes sports fan (depending on how his teams are doing), and has also been known to be a bit of a monster on guitar, releasing over 30 albums in as many years as a solo artist and also as part of the legendary Pennsylvania garage band The Original Sins. Groove-laden gospel psych with a touch of T Rex inspired pop for good measure, JT graces the WFMU stage with friends Jamie (drums), Ron (bass) and Mike (gtr) to play some of his classics and showcase his latest release, “The Svelteness of Boogietude”. Get ye healed as the JT4 rip through an hour of the hits, invoking the power of rawk with the sounds of the Sins to the present day. Take your trousers off and come to Church!

Hello Bill, Martyn & KP.
Just quick butt in afore dog walk.
@KP Wanted to ask you what do you think of Roger McGuinn's first solo album from way back?
Avatar 3:22am
KP:

Is that the one w/ Jolly Roger on it?
Avatar 3:22am
Bill Mac:

Hey Brian, what the what?! McGuinn could be something I play from today. Let me know when you get back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25am
Brian in UK:

Not that was Cardiff Rose. It had Draggin' & I'm So Restless, 'Hannoi Hannah'
Avatar 3:26am
Bill Mac:

@KP That was Cardiff Rose, released in 76. Looks like he had at least 2 other solos before that one.
Avatar 3:27am
Bill Mac:

That's the one that came out in '73.
Avatar 3:29am
KP:

Love that album and the cover. It was self titled. He started great solo career with it, particularly the autobiographical opening track, I'm so Restless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30am
Brian in UK:

Bill, McGuinns' electric twelve string Rickenbacker has become part of the fabric of modern music.
@ Bill my favourite track is from the second one Peace on You. An Al kooper song called"(Please Not) One More Time" Oh bracketed song titles.

hey Brian there is still some steam in this old dog yet
  3:33am

Jolly Roger was on Cardiff Rose, another classic. The nautical one on first album was "Heave Away."
  3:34am
KP:

Brian, I don't remember that Kooper song.
Avatar 3:34am
Jay/London:

@ Bill thanks for the advice :)
Avatar 3:35am

Voof! Hey KP, did you turn the light out? I can't see you!

I try my best Jay. It sounds like advice an old man would give doesn't it?
Avatar 3:38am
Jay/London:

@ Bill we are as old as we want to be in our heads ... it's just the pains that let us down
  3:39am
KP:

I might have mentioned the Byrds and Mcguinn and related acts were huge in New York and particularly Long Island where I lived. I must have seen roger 15 to 20 times as a solo. Sometimes w/ band but mostly not. Saw the Clarence White Byrds at least four times.

I fell off the page. Using iPhone and the whole screen won't fit on it. I mentioned this to Ken. I'm to lazy to get up and use real computer.

There was a David Lynch TV special to benefit transcendental meditation. It had star studded cast featuring Paul McCartney and Lynch sang on it. It was awesome and weird, fittingly.

David Lynch and Donovan came to Edinburgh a few years back to talk about starting a Lynchian transcendental school here. I don't think anything came of it. Donovan did sing a few songs, though.

Bill Mac:

@Jay, Reminds me of graffiti I saw in the Logan railroad tunnel entrance. Someone had bothered to write the entire holiday poem "Christmas is a Coming" on the wall only to get to the part where it goes
"If you haven't got a penny, a ha'penny will do
If you haven't got a ha'penny, then F--- you!"
Better yet, some concerned parent spent the time to chip off the naughty word. Memories of youth....
Avatar 4:31am
Bill Mac:

@Steve
For sure, I'm diggin' this comp every week!
Avatar 4:35am
Jay/London:

love that story Bill there are some strange people out there .. i think the person did not like Christmas and and was lonely.. but am sure would like to know why they did it
Avatar 4:39am

To be honest with you, I kind of knew it was some classic poem, but I never thought to find out how the poem really ended.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42am

Sorry for my silence. I was reminded by Mrs S that the Janet and John books had nothing to do with sex, so I had to search the internet to scratch the mental itch that I had' For the record the sex book we had as kids was 'Peter and Pamela Grow Up'.
