Morning early risers! Just wanted to start off the playlist SUPER early this morning to see what would happen and also to say that as of now (635am) I really have NO idea what to start the show with.
Please, what would be the name of the last song you played last week? The band's name sounded to me like 'Mansabhar' and the song title 'moon bit'(?). Can't find anything on the interweb and can't shazam it. Thanks.
Thanks, Ken! So Boom Bit is the name of the artist? Just found a hip hop producer under that name. But still can't find anything for the Mansabar - Boom Bip combo.
...if Zoey cut off her bangs, I'm gonna yodel for 10 hours...

Ken,
Did you know about this other bombastic news about Snowden?
The singer/songwriter of the Puerto Rican band 'Calle 13', René Pérez, is teaming up with Assange to rescue Snowden from the Russian airport! They met at the Ecuadorian embassy in London last week! The saga continues!
Actually, I'd worry more about your kidneys...Aleve and advil do their damage there, that's a whole lot you're taking. Wow, must have been some work you had done

Aww, Cecile! Your ears should be insured by taxpayer money since they tend to pick up the best music of the world. And that is not a patronising comment but something that came up from the bottom of my sincere heart.
10:02am
Cecile:
George Adams sang on that.
And the great Paula Scher designed the album cover.
Oh that reminds me, I was monitoring the Rockland signal from the car over the weekend. It's definitely better than it used to be but still a bit unreliable. It seemed to get better the farther west I went.

Hmmm.. Can't make the NY show.. maybe I'll catch you in Guam!?
During his concert Sunday in Quebec City, Stevie Wonder declared he would not be playing Florida again until the abolition of “Stand Your Ground,” the law that allowed George Zimmerman to go free after murdering Trayvon Martin.

Good morning, Ken! I'd like to hear Larry.

"And I know I’m not everybody, I’m just one person. I’m a human being. And for the gift that God has given me, and from whatever I mean, I decided today that until the “Stand Your Ground” law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again. As a matter of fact, wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world."

...Duchamp's thang is shifting colors...this's some good Alleve, mahn...
I remember hearing this song (the Zager/Evans version) for the first time in grade school - our music teacher played it as an example of lyrics with social meaning, I guess.
I think it was part of the plot to thoroughly depress and demoralize us.
Been pissed off since yesterday, when it was made public that the government is going to be making the lives of independent radio stations more difficult. They'll be limiting the broadcast range of some, and taking away the broadcasting capabilities of some. The channels made available will then be sold, but apparently the independent stations will not be allowed to buy their channels back. In other words, big media conglomerates and repetitious playlists will take over, and freeform will virtually disappear.
Then today, the owners of the biggest freeform channel in the country announced there were going to be layoffs, or the channel will be sold. Ugh.
re: like a red prison, from Mark Ames of the eXile:
New Pussy Riot video goes after Putin's KGB henchman who took over the oil industry, Igor Sechin - throwing oil on Sechin's face. This is suicide the hard and painful way. Sechin is considered the scariest guy in Russia, the guy who does Putin's dirty work. The lyrics were written by jailed Pussy Riot member Nadya Tolokonnikova, who's in the "colony" in Mordovia.
On the same day Pussy Riot's jailed members go for Putin's throat via their still-free members, Snowden applies to Putin, leader of "powerless" Russia, for asylum. What a fuckup.
...if they were totally crap, they prob. wouldn't have bothered busting them...P.Riot I mean - altho' prob. applicable to Indep.Stations thing too if I read it...
To those keeping score, the funny freeform thing in one of the sign in links this morning has been fixed. But the funny freeform thing on the air remains invincible.

Sam:
I think the KH is pronounced like the Ch in Chanukah.
@KOTJ: trying to find one in English right now. Can't say I'm surprised, as this is the same government who decided that crowdsourcing is illegal, and that small community bartering systems should be taxed. F-ing morons.
@Rich: not in the US, in Finland
Dammit, can't find the radio news in English, only in Finnish. But reading the news pissed me off again. The smallest independent stations would only be allowed to be on air for 3 months at a time, after which they have to be off the air for at least 2 months. Then they can be back for another 3 months, and so on... Oh, and small stations will no longer be allowed to get sponsors or advertising to finance their operations. And half of all transmitter stations used by independent stations will stop operating. Aaargh!
@Ken: I am so sorry about your collection. I've had to part with large chunks of my collection in the past due to disasters but nothing like a hurricane.
My condolences.
I like your deriv'n of "shlock". A "schlager" would be someone who hits or strikes something, hence the idea of undistinguished hitting of a musical instrument or even of anything else.
Meanwhile I'm going to say that "Khlam" is related either to "acclaim" (as in "Everybody clap!"), or to its cognate "clamor" as in "noise".
@RRN63: as long as the nuclear explosion doesn't wipe out my internal hard drive with its EMP... oh wait, I'm supposed to be human. Just ignore that. Nothing to see here!
