...You have to call it something. 'Ethnic' seems accurate & okay to me - as long as you recognize that everyone has an Ethnicity (the guy is ethnically 'European' - a reductive term in itself actually).
...Words is just words
- & there's the caveat that factual accuracy matters ('AfricanAmerican' is more factual than 'Black' - but then there's Kerry's wife, 'African' but 'White'....)
- but as long as there is race-prejudice &/or race-hate - we will be juggling uncomfortably w/ verbal terms & people's feelings about them. That is - *any* word can be used w/ contempt & ill-intent & will become tainted - & there will then be pressure to change it. Words are not our biggest or our fundamental problem...respect is.

1)It's a lazy, nonspecific word used to refer to an exoticized or marginalized 'other'.
2)It's sometimes used as a racist-code word for 'non-white'.
BUT, in the context of my original flame war (on Waxidermy), I came to understand that certain small communities might have their own reasons for using certain words that have a useful-to-them function.

...To what extent are we voyeurs @ a FreakShow (I'm thinking of the book 'The Monster Show' by David J. Skal)- I mean, are TrinityPlus here serious?? - & to what extent are we actually honoring their vulnerability, spirituality & self-expression? Are we seeing ourselves in them?
...It's not necessary to let the side down & answer - one can just say 'I like it' & carry on...

...I suppose there's a check on my own reflexes I wonder about - as if you *just asked me* to check out some Disneyland & 'Suburban Gospel' performances I'd prob. recoil, left to my own devices so-to-speak...
- album covers good!
...I never had a '9' in my screename. Prob.confusing because it's too long...
