Morning All! The flood waters almost pulled me under and I arrived at the high groundd of WFMU really late so the order of business now is SONGS THAT ARE 6-7 MINUTES LONG. Unfortunately, I cant think of any. So I was hoping that you could. if the waters had actually gotten a hold of me I'd be looking for 8 Minute Long Songs. But I'm sorta OK. And I cleaned up X-Ray Burns' peanutshells so the Magic Factory wont flood.
Hey Ken, You could play my band's new song, just released this morning! It's almost 12 minutes long- should buy you some time! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_I0sSLX1o4
I was gonna complain that my exorbitant pledge surely deserved well prepared and executed programming.. But rushed/late Ken is as great as prepared Ken, it seems.

Hello WFMU, hello Ken
I'm your ch ch ch ch ch Cheri Pie!!!
Goyim: Dunno if relates, but: I was motivated to finally plug in the Mac instead of my old PC w/ Explorer 6 because Comments were not auto-scrolling & SignIn on the little Comment window didn't show my Icon automatically, altho' did let me SignIn...
That wonderful disgusting smell is seeping up from our flooded basement right now - nice smellulary accompaniment to the sounds of the Magic Factory.
9:30am
Goyim in the AM:
Nope, that's not it. I am clicking on the e-mail link to confirm my new account and it sends me to the login screen, no announcement that my account is confirmed, and I can't log in.

dale:
KNEW it was x-ray - does he throw his old ny posts down there as well?
Bryce is very absorbent. More effective than high-grade industrial moisture-retention granules. You've got the answer RIGHT THERE, man. Or you will on Friday anyway.
Yeah, that Rollins head would make an excellent Rollins picture disc.

You see people? This is what a good DJ has to do in order to get the bands we love. He goes in this undercover operations in repressive countries to bring us the best music covered under their iron curtains. I salute you, comrade Ken!
9:50am
TradeMark G:
Hah! I -just- played this song (Flying Lizards) on my own show Monday.
Harryhausen was 92 - & he knew we loved him. Wunna my biggest Heroes - wunna the shortlist of people I wished I'd *be* if I ever grew up (which didn't happen)...
10:03am
dale:
ken - just checked and the extended mix of boogie in the butt is 6:27
10:04am
TradeMark G:
oh shucks, Ken -- thanks for playing th' Snatch :-)
Heard the other track I did with that reverend? "Don't Let The Devil Blow Your Mind" is on my newer ECC album All Rights Reserved.
Cecile! I've only heard rumors from Japanese crate diggers who scour the Methodist Church bazaars of the northern Upper Peninnsula-that such a beast exists. rumor has it that an excperpt from such a 2xlp was heard on an episode of the Jeffersons
10:06am
TradeMark G:
Been trying to locate this reverend -- I've gotten as close to locating a church which I believe his son is preaching at (Elder Marshall Taylor II) but they haven't been returning my phone calls... perhaps my sampling of Elder Taylor I wasn't complimentary enough.
@Rev turnip druid: Wooly Willy - YES! and I concur, Golden Voyage of Sinbad was the best Harryhausen film. Blew my mind as a kid with the "dancing Kali" scene. Sad he is gone, but his influence is EPIC.
Ken you forgot to mention the whole controversy surrounding Chris Christie - "While fueling further speculation of a presidential bid, Gov. Christie claims gastric-band surgery was for his family."
'Jason & the Argonauts' is a strong contender - 'FiveMillionMiles to Earth'
...I see people's stuff as one body of work more & more (all that Beatles? - 8 years-ish)...
...I have no idea how I got on the porch? - somethin' to do w/ MileyCyrus & a Russian record...& the phone company...@ least I Know Where My Towel Is...
It was pouring so hard at 7:30 in Brooklyn that the rain on the window woke me up. Someone I know who was on the phone to Korea got laughed at by a Korean because a lightning bolt made her jump, and he could hear it all the way to Korea and laughed when she jumped. It's Noah territory, people. Has tailed off for the moment, though.
...scientists say Global Warning will mean fewer storms but larger ones...but no evidence of that...I mean - if yer gonna believe scientists about science...
I'm going to go hide in the basement now so I can avoid people asking me where the lightbulbs are WHEN THEY COULD FIND THE DAMN THINGS IF THEY WOULD JUST LOOK SINCE THEY'RE RIGHT AT THE START OF THE DAMN AISLE...
What's the point of dunces like A$AP Rocky -- what's the point of rapping, which is all about playing with language, if you can barely speak English? Thank Gob there is real quality out there like Shabazz Palaces and the stuff Billy Jam plays. Too bad there is a literacy test to get on commercial stations like Hot 97. And when I say "literacy test" I mean it sounds like you have to FAIL at literacy to get on Hot 97.
I have no idea what the lyrics are to most music unless I've heard the track scores of times, so lyrics really have no impact to me of whether I enjoy the track or not. Now, to be a fave, that's different.
Aw, Sam@10:42 and Don said it so much better than I could, and with just a sentence each. Clearly I have much to learn from concise unregistered commenters.
...but I try to loggin to Google & YouTube - & I don't remember my Password - & to get it they wanna send it textmail - but I ain't gotta mobile er nuthin'!
- I mean c'mon people - summa us are older & ain't got the money for that stuff
- I mean GETw/IT already!!!
I spend large amounts of my time among people who love Billy Joel to pieces, and say things to me like "You must be the only person in the *world* who doesn't like Billy Joel!" Once again, WFMU reaches out its hand to me and says "You are not alone."
Oh I'll go to WAR for Tom Jones, but can't get behind the hippity hop (some folks talk too much in public, others just do it with a drum machine). But the kids dig it, so I shrug & let live...
Hello all! Been home for an hour, but computer was acting up.
So, gifs: "The Matrix", obviously. "I Was A Spy", a quite forgotten movie that I recommend. "Singing in the Rain". And Jackie Chan classic "Armour of God".
10:57am
Sam:
There was a lady at the PATH station saying not to vote for Fulop because he wouldn't go to bat for her in her discrimination lawsuit against Yeshiva University, because he's too corrupt to impeach the corrupt judge who threw her case out. Maybe she's right, maybe everybody is corrupt?
Tom Jones is a great singer (& prob. a helluvaguy) - but so is PlacidoDomingo & I don't wanna hear *him* doin' Johnny Cash or Tom Waits. (The new Tom Jones stuff is acceptable to good from what I heard on FMU)...
Tenniscoats! And Caryn is here! Ken, unleash the Harryhausen gifs already
11:03am
pierre:
Quickly listening and passing the bonjour to Ken and everyone.
Unfortunately, I don't have Internet on the streets of London.
So I'll be able to tune in only while at the place I'm staying in.
RTD, Billy Jam plays excellent hippity hop. But such MCs with, y'know, vocabularies & stuff are not allowed in the A$AP-level tracks acknowledged by popular culture.
@Cheripi: I'll try to enoy the best I can :)
@Sam: merci
By the way French people I've learn that People Like Us is in Lyon's Les Nuits Sonore ! Tsk tsk, I have to go to London, and a member of the wfmu goes to France...
Ike: yeh, I've enjoyed much of BJam -- In general my interest-level engages as soon as them rappity sumbitches shut the hell up & let the sounds come through. I tend to tune out immediately if some posturing hosebag starts yelling at me.
oh la la pierre! You and Bardot always make the comment section a treat!
Are you in London?! Now that would explain why there was so many police officers and streets closed in the downtown area! And I thought they were doing that to secure the Queen for her speech! Ha!
@Ike: I don't think I've missed one of BJ's shows since he came to the station. Except the last two or so, but I'll catch up, thanks Bob for the archives
11:13am
dale:
neil sounds a little like jerry lewis on this cut. little water song on that disc is gorgeous
@Andrew: Healy's porch pics are grainy because apparently TPTB are merciful and don't want to have everyone losing their lunch over HD pictures of his naked body.
Vocab.: Music doesn't have to engage &/or flatter my intellect &/or verbal lobes ('Bird Is the Word' will do just fine, Thx)
- as long as it does not *insult* it!
- That's where I'm w/ RTD
- altho' I think that one thing the FMU experience (for prominent egs.) illustrates is that it's less about Genre - & more about the Artistic Sensibilities being applied to it
( - one thing I like about Marty McSorley's Program, ferinstance, is he mixes in tasteful bits of HipHoppy stuff I would not choose by meself...
Ken, maybe I should phrase it differently. Music that revels in arrogant pride of its own stupidity and anti-intelligence. In a way, A$AP Rocky is the hip hop equivalent of Maroon 5 or the Spin Doctors, but with better beats, admittedly.
11:19am
f๑f๑ (:
Caryn,
Can you do a reverse search? Say that I wanted to see all the gifs with Bardot and Birkin naked together in bed, can you bring them all up?
11:20am
f๑f๑ (:
Sorry if it looks like I'm addressing you like you were a image search engine.
11:20am
Sam:
Oh, they just dropped the German S-bomb twice!! Good thing the FCC is too ignorant to understand German.
Ooh, Ellen von Unwerth photo from "Revenge" accompanying the Lemper/Hannon piece! Now there's a book for those who enjoy the BB/Birkin stuff. Looking at you, f๑f๑ (: ...
Actually A$AP is maybe more like Tesla than the Spin Doctors. What are some really shitty rock bands that take great pride in their own stupidity rather than just bland, cardboard mediocrity? That's what I'm going for.
11:25am
f๑f๑ (:
pierre, What? You prefer Loren over Bardot? Oh, well, I guess grass is always greener on the other side. I'd say Monica Vitte > Cardinale = Bardot
Looking back over the playlist, I'm cursing my laptop for not allowing me to hear the start of the show... It's moments like this that I'm really grateful for the archives.
Blame my being french, but Bardot the Mad(dr)Hag makes me nauseous. Anyway, even staying on the purely physical attraction level, I like Birkin much better
Well... since Andy's listening, he knows it now-- Okay. I couldn't say that with a straight face. Sounds like a Ken win.
11:39am
Sam:
You might get arrested.
11:39am
pierre:
I don't really like Melanie Laurent, but I understand you. I mean the fact that I don't like her, is very personal and related to her music, way of playing… but I acknowledge and respect your views.
@pierre: I like Raquel for having a sense of humour and being quite adept at physical comedy.
@rev: history has too many great male and female film stars to ogle to list them all, so I think everyone just focused on the 60s/70s for now for some reason. I might add Anna Karina and Julie Christie to the list.
Finish before 3PM unless you want to get into the highschool rush, which might be a little dangerous, especially for Andy. But if you do go past 3, bring some KHLAM for protection!
fair point, re: 60s/70s film-stars ... the aforementioned Caroline Munro did add a certain healthy zest for life when I saw Golden Voyage of Sinbad in the theater (age 6)...
@fofo: I think I will still have a problem with her. But if she sung like Fontaine, that would mean she don't give a crap sounding weird, and add a touch of humor in it, and as I say, this is the thing that I find the sexiest in people. Humor.
RTD: In the Dictionary of my Brain - one defintion of 'Woman' shall always Link to Caroline here : www.classichorrorcampaign.com...
- & age that I am - nascent Scorpionic lust forever defined by the ladies of 60's 'Batman' (Yvonne as Batgirl, Newmar as Catwoman - 1000%!)...
Humoresque will always make me think of a certain comedian's filthy Limericks someone insisted on playing repeatedly when we were all tripping - like it or not...
- Lara - ?! Why was this necessary - ?!...Maybe swelling goes down...
