this is very interesting. I wonder at what point "clean" started to be used to refer to being susbtance free... has it always been that way or does it coincide with a point when people started to viewed drugs as "dirty"? In many cultures mind-altering substances are linked to magic and religion and are seen as pure rather than dirty. So I suppose I'm asking, when did we start viewing drugs (inc alcohol) as dirty?
