Good morning Jason

Hey Fred, how's it going?

Bonjour Jason and Fred, and the listeners to come.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12am
fred:

It's been a meeting-fest at work these days, I'm not sure I should fully wake up before tonight's show (noise from Latvia and Russia)
Avatar 6:23am
ausmanx:

the paris-sydney connection back online... evening, everyone
Avatar 6:31am
pierre:

salut ausmanx !
Avatar 6:36am
ausmanx:

for my sins, i'm subtitling a French comedy, L'arnacoeur, tonight at work... i think your meetings might be preferable, fred! romain duris is just so annoying. any good French films we should be looking out for, guys?
Avatar 6:39am
pierre:

hahah… I don't like him to ausmanx.
depends, I would say movies by Jean Rollin are pretty great, or anything by Melville (l'armée des ombres, le deuxième souffle…)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40am
fred:

@ausmanx: I can't help you there: I haven't see a film in over six years, except for contemporary art videos. I think the last French one was "les tontons flingueurs", and that must have been over a decade ago
Avatar 6:44am
ausmanx:

goodness, Pierre, you don't often get those two mentioned in the same sentence! and only watching art videos sounds delightfully ascetic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06am
fred:

@ausmanx: I see a lot of live shows (music and dance), so I have little time left for movies. And narration just bores me, in any medium; I read some fiction, but only for the style
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19am
Sem Chumbo:

Here you go, a compliment for the classical music you are now playing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22am
Sem Chumbo:

Oh, French. Je ne sais pas à ce sujet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37am
Slow Learner:

Oh, Kafka's The Penal Colony. I might yet learn to hum a few of these tunes, in the right frame of mind. Boldly played, Mr. Elbogen.
Avatar 7:40am
Jason Elbogen:

This seemed to fit in well with fred and ausmanx's art discussions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43am
fred:

Yes, it was a good fit

that'd be nice. i'm going to be shovelling all morning. (cue smart ass retorts)

Joana Bruczdowicz -- that rocked. Superb show, minute by minute by minute by minute....
Avatar 7:48am
ausmanx:

i enjoy music, writing, dance, theatre etc as much for the way they handle their limitations as anything else, but film for me is the only medium which brings word, sound and image into full symbiosis. not often, but often enough! it's all good, as long as it provokes. jason is a provocateur

I wish I lived in Boston. I'd love to have a meter of snow. We haven't had a shite of snow this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01am
fred:

One of the things I love in live performances is the occasional failure. My favorite moment is dance was seeing my favorite dancer slip while running, and the way she recovered before falling. She was so seamless that I would have missed it had I blinked. That gave meaning to "hitting the ground running" for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21am
Sugarfly Waterloo:

I see Chinese
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21am
fred:

Jason, I actually see Chinese characters on the playlist, or at least they look like Chinese characters
Avatar 8:22am
ausmanx:

"Land of Love Songs", "The First Month's Flowers" is the Chinese, Jason
  8:22am
Frank in VT:

I see Chinese too
  8:24am
Terry:

I see Chinese characters for the field recordings post on my machine too
Avatar 8:24am
ausmanx:

i'm working in the subtitling unit here, and the chinese guy is next door!
  8:24am
Terry:

Can we just make up what the Chinese writing says?
  8:27am
Terry:

I would like it to mean "We cling to our own point of view, as though everything depended on it. Yet our opinions have no permanence; like autumn and winter, they gradually pass away."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28am
Ken From Hyde Park:

I believe this is going to be the year of the snake. The water snake, in particular.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32am
Sem Chumbo:

Terry: Chinese characters translate "Land and love songs \ land with love songs"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33am
Sem Chumbo:

Oops, that will teach me to post without context.
Avatar 8:34am
Jason Elbogen:

who needs context?

Avatar 8:42am
Va Van:

I couldn't resist seeing what 담배꽁초 sounds like
  8:43am
Terry:

@Sem - thanks, though it is kind of the same thing- the seeming permanence of love and land can change with time (think of Breezy Point). What do words mean in the end anyways?
