It's 15 degrees right now in NYC. For those on the east side of the big pond and elsewhere, that's like 8-9 below zero C. Hasn't been this cold in several years.
Brooklyn band Prince Rama commented: "I actually think Beyonce lip-syncing the national anthem is one of the best conceptual art pieces I've seen in a long time".
it should be clickable? bbc.in... "Brooklyn band Prince Rama commented: "I actually think Beyonce lip-syncing the national anthem is one of the best conceptual art pieces I've seen in a long time". from their twitter.
odd sized avatars chaf my ocd, but squaring them is hard to do. I'd love it if Ken would do it. I'd be more comfortable if all avatars were the same size and shape.
@Brian C: Create a profile, upload an image to it in the box that is available on your profile, click on "set as avatar" -- then it will display with your comments till you get sick of it and change to another image...
I did a science fair project in high school on the perfect square. It's actually a thing. I didn't realize the irony at the time, standing in front of that poster board with my pizza face.
Please let me know what ideas or suggestions you all have for this here Friendship Barn. I know what i have in mind but I'm curious where you all wanna see it go or accomplish.
i'd like to see something like a "this is the song/album i really want, but can't find, and would somebody please send it to me via the interwebs" function.
IMHO - One thing that might be helpful/useful would be a way to export ones favorited tracks, perhaps an automated report that's emailed monthly, and then clears the list for the new month.
Yes, and avatars could be limited to only cats, images stolen from Mr. Google, or pictures of yourself that are either totally stylized or else more then 30 years old. Wait, isn't that already the rule??
I know there a WFMU meet–up thing that is already on the web. But I was wondering if this friendship society could actually help organize that sort of event ?
I don't know what the big deal is. Whitney Houston lip-synched that killer version of the anthem over 20 years ago, and it took nothing away from the vocal performance.
Too much singing in the world anyway. Can't get into that whole practice of putting 65,000 extra soulful syllables in every word. It's like scratching something to infection.
I was just wondering how much of a SCANDAL it would be if a new president wanted an instrumental anthem at his/her inaug.? Just a good strong orchestral slam. Que horror!

I tried to sing the National Anthem drunk at karaoke in my 20s during the Persian Gulf War. I was feeling less than patriotic (same as now) and thought it would be funny to massacre it. I get up there in this shitty little dump bar and request all rise for the National Anthem. Everyone did and saluted which indicated this was no joke and I'd drunkenly fucked up. Had to sing it as best as I could while my friends all stood there wondering what was wrong with me. Hammered!
@ Ken. How do the favorite songs work? Can you make your own continuous playlists out of your favorited songs? Or do you have to click the individual tracks and listen one at a time?
@BSI: well that I agree with--I saw a new version of the music to the national anthem with all the scales that these obnoxious singers put in there, hilarious.
@dc pat: Exactlly. If Bush 2005 had used a lipsync singer, people would be all over that shit, and rightly so. That's one thing that drives me nuts when my family talks politics. It's like they are fans of a sports team where their team can never do anything wrong, and the other team totally suck in every way. That kinda creeps me out, because it's clear that they are not being fair or truthful (even with themselves). Holy crap, my family are koolaid drinkers!
@G how do we know Bush didn't. According the band they've been pre-recorded since the dawning of time. Yo Yo Ma mimed his performance last year. People weren't looking for a raw spontaneous performance.
What dc pat said about Falco.... The day my friend and I put a thrift store find of a poster of Falco on his front door, he dies in a car crash. He stopped putting posters of musicians on his door after that.
Is it possible to see somewhere in the site the most starred tracks/shows from the friendship society?
Another suggestion: it would be great if we can click on any song that we like a lot and see who else has favourited it, and in which other shows has been played (I know there's something similar somewhere in the site). So, on one hand, we could click on these peoples' profiles to check what else they like which would be another nice way to discover music,, and/or, in the other hand, another way to know about other radio shows..
i think it was on Club MTV when the cd skipped. and that was actually before they won the Grammy. they lost it because Frank Farian admitted that they didn't actually perform on the album.
@Honey Mae Westwater, yeah that's awesome! I love how there's reptile audio too. Who knew all those snakes, turtles and alligators make so much noise? The alligator sounds are especially cute for such a big beast.
I can't see if anyone mentioned it earlier, but as I mentioned on Sigal's list yesterday, it would be nice to have a star attached to a DJ's individual sets, too, so you can show appreciation for a group of tracks and how they were put together.
@anne: sorry for the cumbersome handle -- HMW will more than do. :) I had to go for the Cooper's hawk, the pileated woodpecker and Carolina wren songs right off.
Ah, it's so nice to be inside and relax with these sounds. Up and out to the laundromat, then workout and then hanging up sheets and towels on the line in 17-degree temps. Bracing!
Instead of having playlists or in addition to them, it would be awesome if users had channels (think Youtube). That way we, the insignificant mortal users, could play to be a real DJs (think kids playing with toy versions of real radio equipment), collect songs from the FMU musical archive, to create our own sets, adding mic breaks with our real voiced opinions, to share and clutter the social media realm!!!!111
But it says the 1 disk version, I want the 2 disc version

I actually read today in the newspaper that the red chick from t.A.t.u. (Lena) shows her full glory in an adult magazine.Yes, that made the news today.
The 91.9 FM signal is sweet. I can switch between 90.1 and 91.9 in the Beacon, NY and Newburgh, NY area and listen to the freeform radio station of the nation.
I think the rectangle looks great and confirms WFMU authoritative edge in the digital age. And I made that to rhyme to give it a more authoritative edge for this digital age.
I dont hate all rectangular avatars, just the horizontally positioned ones. Vertical rectangles aren't evil, they're just acting out. Unfortunately, they all have to go.
Hearing that Milli Vanilli song for the first time in about 23 years was hilarious. I was thinking, "These are the worst song-skit dialogue actors ever. Hey, wait, why is this familiar? Oh no! I remember this!"
