That's weird. Somebody posted a picture of a pastie on Facebook today. Now you guys are talking about pasties. I haven't thought about pasties in years. They're very popular in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Hey Jason, any word on how the New Birthday Song competition is going? I'm eagerly listening to all of them! Do you know when the decision comes out?
Avatar 3:38pm

ha, mark, I went to school there.

If done right BSI, they are great. If not, they are depth charges of heartburn.
Avatar 3:38pm

Along those lines, what's your birth day and month, Jason?
Avatar 3:38pm

When I retire, I'm opening up a lazer Floyd tent in one of the UP's plentiful KOA campgrounds.
Avatar 3:39pm

re: the birthday songs - in my quick listen, there are not very many real contenders. As I listened I realized that there are a some basic constraints: short, easy to sing by amateurs and fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm
Mike East:

since the last time the commentors were buzzing about pasties, I've been thinking about buying a food truck and selling them on the east coast. I feel like one could make a killing. any investors out there?

Don't make em like Potters Pasties here, Mike East. They are just glorified Hot Pockets. Great ingredients, but they just don't push the right buttons. And I think a Thai chicken pastie is just kind of well, off.

Kitty, chicken is probably my worst weakness. I have to put it in the freezer when it's cooked or it is gone.

Avatar 3:42pm

@Lewis: That's how I approached it -- narrow vocal range with simple words and notes. A children's song. Wish I could have managed to get a children's chorus singing it, but wasn't time.
Avatar 3:44pm
Cecile:

hahahhaha, kitty. Been there.

Cheri, my stepmom, if she is still living, will be down with that.

This Black Future is making me think of Gong -- and that bass line is a replica of something else but I can't put my eardrum on it.

Jason, In the uk the subsidized "National Health Service"(NHS) covers many treatments, although it is always open to attack from government austerity cuts. The great pressure group, "38Degrees.co.uk" keeps tabs on government proposals..

@MK. I'm having a bit of a politically inspired week. Watched 'The House I live In' on the BBC, the documentary on the War on Drugs in America. Truly one of the most intelligent pieces of film making I've seen and if you haven't seen it, you can as it's still available on the iPlayer.

Finally figured out what that Black Future track's bass line reminded me of: Mission of Burma's "That's when I reach for my revolver," a song that "features a rare example of bass solo in a studio-recorded rock song." So Gong + Burma = Black Future? :)
