listener james from westwood:

can i get a whole-station tail-wag going here? congrats, amanda and wfmu!!!
  11:59am
Carmichael:

It's a Wednesday Wagfest®! Hi Amanda, looking forward to some jaunty tunes!
  12:01pm
Brian in UK:

It's the springtime of my life

Go Amanda go, go! Go!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm
Amanda:

Hey lJfW, Carmichael, Brian, and Anchovy! I'm so so so so happy that we raised the dough. Let's listen to lots of non-money-related-programming to celebrate.
  12:05pm
Brian in UK:

When are we having 8 Track Day?
PS Hello all.
  12:08pm
Carmichael:

Do you have a spring in your step today, Brian?
  12:08pm
Brian in UK:

You do know until you are in the brown & tacky who has the wherewithall & friendship to drag you out of it.
  12:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

The Summer of Love is now the Autumn of Wag!

Hey Amanda and everyone! Glad to be listening with you, and to see the whole station meet its goal. Thanks to the kind listener who put us over the mark, as well as all of you kind listeners who got us to that mark to begin with!
  12:11pm
Brian in UK:

Well Carmichael I was just commentating on the opening theme, I am more last day of summer. Just taken Spencer for a walk, cold Northerly winds cutting thru like a knife. Trust all is well with you.
  12:11pm
listener james from westwood:

i am so in love with my fellow listeners right now. not restraining-order love. less creepy than that.

@Matt I believe it was Emile of Netherlands.
  12:13pm
Digital Judge:

That's good, Mr. from Westwood, otherwise you would be ordered to stay at least 50 characters away from other commenters at all times.
  12:13pm
Uncle Michael:

I can't count how many times in the '90s I called my brother and Julianna answered the phone. True story.
  12:14pm
Brian in UK:

Hey UM. Did Will Birch arrive?
  12:14pm
Carmichael:

Yep, everything is AOK out here in NorCal, except for the monster storm rolling in about now.
  12:14pm
Matt from Springfield:

Awesome Brian! Such love from the Netherlands lately (BAS!!)
Afternoon, Michael!

Yes!

Magnificent effort everyone! More than at any time in its history, WFMU, during the past few weeks, was SAVED by fundraising.

Saved by our listeners.

Magnificent.
  12:16pm
Matt from Springfield:

I love this Nick Lowe one! Never knew the title or album till now. TY Amanda!
  12:17pm
Brian in UK:

Step up Doug and take a big hand. Dreamin' of Streamin' in the evening.
  12:21pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Doug: We LOVE the station, and want to preserve what we love.
I have no shame in proclaimin' it!
  12:21pm
Carmichael:

I love all things Rockpile/Dave Edmunds/Nick Lowe.
  12:23pm
Hugo:

The FMU collective did it again! Thanks to all and sundry!
  12:23pm
Ricardo Montalban:

@Carmichael: Me too, and relatively recently been digging it esp. more, for some reason, with a side of early E. Costello.
Nostalgia? I don't know.
  12:23pm
kat330:

Hello, Amanda, and long lost Nazarians!

(@Brian: I left the fxo playlist before I saw your note to me. I left a reply some hours later. :)
  12:26pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Carm, Ricardo: No clue why Nick Lowe and 80s Dave Edmunds is so neglected on commercial radio; I've learned most of what I know about Nick's long, productive history from FMU, and from Amanda here in particular. Michael Shelley had a great interview with him recently.
  12:27pm
Jamin ta80:

I've been listening to the Dave Edmunds version of "Almost Saturday Night" every Friday night for years straight...
  12:27pm
Uncle Michael:

Congrats to WFMU and all of us. I have to dash to work but I'll get on and explain about Julianna taking my calls from there. You'll all learn how pathetically I anjoy basking in reflected light.
  12:28pm
Brian in UK:

@Matt he was very modest, rating his albums 6/7 out of 10. Hard to judge your own work.
  12:28pm
kat330:

Speaking of Michael Shelley, I noticed he has a great lineup this Saturday. I've been a Shearer "Le Show" listener from just about the inception.

And the Lowe on Shelley reminds me of the "Shelley, My Love" earworm I've had for the past couple of weeks. Such a sweet little tune I used to croon to my cat, Shelley.
  12:29pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat: Afternoon! (Sometimes I think that name sounds like the "Nazarenes"!)

Great news Amanda! Now you don't need to bundle up so snugly.
  12:31pm
kat330:

@Matt: Yeah, after I looked at it, I thought it better Nazarions, but I like Nazarenes, or maybe, to distinguish, Nazareens?
  12:31pm
Hugo:

Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe. That goes back to Love Sculpture and Brinsley Schwarz. Anyone recall Sabre Dance? A big hit in the UK back in the day.
  12:32pm
Brian in UK:

@kat my wife had a cat with the same name, long afore Nick the Knife.
  12:34pm
kat330:

Yes, Brian, we both tried to get Shelley to play the tune, IIRC. No dice.
  12:36pm
Brian in UK:

@Hugo I might have been here before. I recall John Peel playing it on Top Gear & enjoying it so much he played it again later. Freeform. It is one of those tunes like Purple Haze, the first time you hear it the world changes ever so slightly.
  12:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

Dennis Diken would like "the Nazareens"! But like most shows without an "official" nickname for fans, I use several different ones. Sometimes Scenarians works well.

@Hugo: LOVE that version! I tell Joe McGasko (who plays the all 45s segment "Single File") to be on the lookout for the orig 45 of that--would be great for SF!
  12:39pm
Hugo:

Before Sabre Dance, there was this one which I managed to find second-hand. Back then, of course, everybody was doing da blooze:

http://www.discogs.com/Love-Sculpture-Blues-Helping/release/3405889
  12:40pm
Carmichael:

Yes Hugo, Love Sculpture were great in their day. And Brinsley Schwarz had some great solo songs as well. I saw him with Nick Lowe probably 15 years ago.
  12:41pm
listener james from westwood:

@matt: question mark and the scenarians?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
Amanda:

Hi kat330, glad to see you back! @Uncle Michael -- you are probably gone by now, but that does sound like an interesting story.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm
Doug Schulkind:

So glad you're heat's back, Amanda. Through thick and thin, you've been radiating it every Wednesday nonstop!
  12:46pm
kat330:

Thanks, Amanda! I've been listening a lot of the time, just off the boards. Waded back in with Doug last night, and the Water felt fine. :)

Hey, Doug! Your wife off to the South Pacific yet?
  12:49pm
Matt from Springfield:

@LJFW: That would be great if Amanda was doing a theme program--she plays 96 short songs of a common theme, and thus that show would be "96 Cheers! by Question Mark and the Scenarians"! ;)
  12:49pm
Brian in UK:

@Hugo Produced by Kingsley Ward, co-owner of Rockfield but recorded at Abbey Road
  12:50pm

How synchronistic to be eating a clementine during this set with Orange Juice and The Oranges Band -- refreshing!

afternoon Amanda . Kat, Doug, everyone!
  12:55pm
Hugo:

@Brian: And the sleeve made by Garrod & Lofthouse (by appointment).
  12:55pm
Brian in UK:

South Pacific, not a big fan of musicals. Younger than Springtime, gayer than Laughter. Odd lyrics.
  12:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Doug: Then, it's Paul Ngozi blaring at all hours!
Well, that's basically your house now, but with the Mrs. gone you can now turn it up from 4 to 5!
  12:57pm
Brian in UK:

Yes Hugo, noticed that, takes me back.
  12:57pm

I'll bring the Belgian brew, Doug.

Lord Tangerine of Satsuma.
  12:59pm
Hugo:

Which reminds me of: Did you come here for pleasure or did you bring your wife? (translated from Swedish)
  1:01pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Amanda: A LIVE, and LIVING show!
  1:01pm
kat330:

@Brian: Aww, some are awwwwesome. Amanda's bed music from "Annie" is always a joy to hear IMO. "Gay" is used liberally in B-way musicals, like in "Camelot": "It's mad, it's gay, a libelous display" ("Lusty Month of May")
  1:03pm
'Titus' Oates:

Time to raise a glass to all who support this modest radio station. I might be some time.
  1:04pm

Why oh why hasn't angel wafted down from heaven with a full-on Give the Drummer Radio blog page? Tell me why?

There's a party in heaven tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm

@Doug -- are you gonna start one?
  1:06pm
Uncle Michael:

Because Wordpress is very expensive and very difficult?
  1:07pm
Uncle Michael:

In heaven...everything is fine.
  1:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat: Therese and Julie usually play that during their first shows in May! The rhymes in "Lusty Month of May" are truly from a golden age of musicals!

"The time for every frivolous whim / Proper or im!"
"When all the world is brimming with fun / Wholesome or un!" :D
  1:09pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Brian: They play a lot of Sparks, because theirs is the No. 1 song in Heaven.
  1:10pm
kat330:

Yes, Matt, I loved those lines when I sang them on stage! :)
  1:10pm
Doug Schulkind:

@Amanda
I've wanted to start one for two years. All I need is someone to design it, someone to maintain it, and many to provide content for it. I asked my cats to help, but they just stare at me blankly.
  1:11pm
kat330:

@Matt: Local public radio played Joni's "Coyote" this a.m., and I remarked to Philo how de-LIGHT-ful it was the time you posted the Bay of Fundy lyric pronto!
  1:11pm
Hugo:

This heaven ain't big enough for both of us?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
Amanda:

If you could get your cats to run a blog themselves, I am certain said blog would be a success.
  1:14pm
Doug Schulkind:

Of course. Cats (not Al Gore) invented the Internet.
  1:14pm
kat330:

@Doug: I don't think there'd be a lack of folks to provide content? And as for design, is it too inappropriate to use one of the no-brainer prefabs at Tumblr? You can add some original flourishes (I'll volunteer Philo for that), and I don't think it would require maintenance really. ICOCBW on all of that.
  1:14pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat: That was fun! But after all, if you're there for Joni (and appaloosas), then they'll be there for you! :)
  1:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

Houseplants could do your copyediting, Doug, but LJFW hasn't had a good experience with his. Some plants just won't do what's asked of them.
  1:15pm
Hugo:

Lots of ready-made templates at blogspot at no cost.
  1:16pm
ndbob:

@Doug I'd contribute for sure
  1:16pm
Uncle Michael:

If the design hurdle is to look at least as good as the playlists... (I kid)
Ichiban uses a generic Wordpress theme.

kat330:

Speaking of cats of the limp noodle, lazy variety: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWBBKGu3FXY

Wow, this is kind of like a Charlie McAlister concept piece.
  1:19pm
ndbob:

I worked for a while at the place here where there is a buffalo heard - one day a group of people skateboarded past it - so I almost got to say that you can't skateboard in a buffalo herd
  1:21pm
Matt from Springfield:

@NDBob: Wow, you really can't skateberd in a buffalo herd!
  1:21pm
Doug Schulkind:

How can I have a blog? I don't even know what ICOCBW means.
  1:21pm
Uncle Michael:

Rollerblades allowed?
  1:22pm
kat330:

Heh! I could, of course, be wrong.
  1:23pm
kat330:

Doug, starting a blog this afternoon will be a *great* way to keep yourself occupied and out of trouble while Jessie's away. Go for it!
  1:24pm
Uncle Michael:

I have a question. Am I the last powerpop fan to find out about Cirrone?
  1:24pm
Brian in UK:

...but you can be happy if you've a mind to
Nice one bob
  1:26pm
kat330:

Is there a translation for Los "Blops"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm
Amanda:

What's a Cirrone?
  1:29pm
kat330:

Lots of questions and question marks in today's Scenario. :)
  1:30pm
Uncle Michael:

Three Italian guys named Cirrone and an Italian drummer not named Cirrone. If you have a fondness for the Badfinger>Big Star>Raspberries>Cheap Trick>Matthew Sweet>Elliott Smith>Fountains of Wayne continuum...you might like it.
  1:30pm
listener james from westwood:

@matt, maybe i should be relieved the plants haven't taken me up on the offer. they're liable to displace me if my clients find out how cheaply they work.
  1:32pm
Uncle Michael:

Lot's of appealing Hudson Brothers-like harmonies.
  1:32pm
Carmichael:

Ya, what Amanda said. Spill the beans, Uncle Mikey.
  1:32pm
Matt from Springfield:

Although "The Boat That I Row" sounds similar to "Walk On Water".

Oooh! You still need to do the Neil Diamond songs sung by other artists set! Play Lulu's version of "The Boat That I Row" :)
  1:33pm
kat330:

I'm hugely fond of Matthew Sweet and Elliott Smith -- all of those artists, in fact.
  1:35pm
Uncle Michael:

Then get thee to cirroneband.com and find out about them. (no affiliation)
  1:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

@LJFW: Make sure the plants don't place ads for their work behind your back.
@UM: Cirrone, thanks for the rec! I do quite enjoy power pop and all the bands you listed!

Whoever at WFMU posted the link to The Rise And Fall Of The Obscure Music Download Blog: A Roundtable on Facebook, thanks...it's an interesting read.
  1:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Amanda: WFMU premium? Nothing shows up for FMU with "Frizzy Blues", I thought it might be a Bob Brainen "Psychedelic Psellouts" but it's not from that. I did find the 45 for sale though:

Doug Schulkind:

Frankly, I'm rather tired of the "Death of the Blogs" meme going around. Every week, I celebrate the cream of the crop of the free-music blogosphere. From where I sit, there is still a ton of a amazing stuff being shared.
  1:43pm
Carmichael:

I remember this guy's voice growing up: "Sebm Lebm" ....
  1:44pm
kat330:

@Doug: The fall of Facebook is in the cards sooner or later, and probably sooner than most would think.
  1:47pm
Uncle Michael:

Doug, I live and die by those blogs and I get what you're saying but you have to admit that the rate at which you locate a title via google, visit the hosting blog, follow the link to the fileshaing site...only to discover it's a bad link, has skyrocketed. I can still find most anything I seek but it's become much much harder. If I didn't have the skills I do, it would be very frustrating.
