Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

Folks, as you know a couple of weeks ago Hurricane Sandy and her post-tropical friends hit Jersey City and much of the surrounding area, knocking us off the air and making it impossible to broadcast from our studios. After picking up the pieces we found ourselves in a $250k financial hole due to costs and lost revenue from the cancellation of our record fair, equipment damage, and the fact that the storm hit during the last week of our October silent fundraiser.
Because of all this we are now in the middle of our Hell And High Water emergency fundraiser! We're breaking our silence and asking on the air (in addition to online) for your help as we try to recover from the storm.

the profits  what i want   Favoriting 7"  radar  1978  This record is so obscure I couldn't even track down any info about the band, let alone a photo. I have a suspicion that The Profits are related to the San Francisco band The Durocs -- if not the Durocs themselves performing under another name. The investigation continues.
---
UPDATE: The investigation has concluded! It turns out that this is the very first record produced by Scott Matthews and Ron Nagle, and it marks the debut of slide guitarist and singer Roy Rogers. And now you know the REST of the story.

@Pine, when you decide to cash your coin at the grocery, sardines & eggs are by far best nutritional bang for the buck. If you eat sardines & eggs.

Hi efd! Love Boomgates.
  10:39pm
Pine:

@SteveL yeah its great! In sanskrit it means "The sustainer of Humanity"
@Holly I eat anything right now!
Also been gifted a big pouch of tobacco, probably my last, good riddance to it too!

Eggs are the sustainers of bull terriers everywhere. Ask one.

If I hadn't quit smoking, i probably - definitely - would've lost my house by now ;-) Dear lord did I waste a shitton of money on smokes

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm
efd:

Hi Holly! Personally I don't care for sardines OR eggs.

Barkevious, I guess that explains the shape of their heads?
  10:44pm
SteveL:

@Pine: In Burma, the most common greeting is 'come eat rice with us' (or something along those lines.) They mean it too.

Eggs seem like a bad choice for most dogs, especially if you're sharing close quarters.
  10:45pm
SteveL:

Hey! A pledge!
  10:48pm
Joe B:

This is the best show on WFMU :)
  10:49pm
Danne D:

Hi EFD :)
Hi Funk Fans :)
greetings from the treadmill (I am fat)
  10:50pm
Holly in NC:

My mum frequently made eggs for breakfast for both our dog Liebchen & me - I got scrambled with margarine, Liebchen got *perfectly* soft boiled with real butter. And real non-instant oatmeal. Again with real butter. No one in the human family was allowed butter except for Thanksgiving & Xmas (at the time, butter far more expensive than marg). No matter, Liebchen was worth it ;-)
  10:51pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

@efd Sharp eye. @Stevel a great choice as long as i leave for work!
  10:52pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

Liebchen was worth it !
  10:53pm
Holly in NC:

Hi Danne! I'm fat too! And I'm not on a treadmill!
  10:54pm
SteveL:

Barkevious: Good point.

Holly/Danne: I'm big boned, primarily in the stomach area.

Joe B: You sure about that?
  10:58pm
Julie:

We're all on a treadmill in life, some of us just prefer to think of it as a hamster wheel
  10:58pm
Pine:

Dark hamster wheel of the soul
  10:59pm
Holly in NC:

Did anyone else use to think that saltines sandwiched with butter/marg so that the butter/marg squirted out the saltine holes was a great after school snack?

And did anyone other than my mum butter/marg all sandwiches, including peanut butter?
  11:00pm
Holly in NC:

@Pine - I just choked on my water, thank you very much ;-)

Hi Julie!
  11:01pm
SteveL:

Holly: Yes, re. saltines and excessive marg use. What a buried memory you have uncovered.
  11:03pm
Pine:

Spreadable things combined with butter/marg are so gross yet everyone seems to do it!
  11:03pm
G:

I weighed 220 in 1998, after 2002 I weighed 180, and now I'm 165. No calorie counting. There is hope.

Thierry:

Nice and swampy, The Liminanas are an efd live show discovery!
  11:09pm
dan in falls church VA:

hola efd
  11:09pm
Holly in NC:

@G - I know there's hope - I just need to get back serious on low carb. Carbs are NOT my friend. I actually gained weight on purpose to escape the physical aspect of an abusive situation, and it took a lot more weight than I thought it would to be successful!
  11:11pm
steve:

efd - is that eye remix as in eye of the boredoms??
  11:12pm
Pine:

@Holly If you can quit smoking you can do anything!
  11:12pm
G:

@HNC: Yes, I got a diet-controllable diabetes diagnosis in the early 00s. Just knowing what food is carbs and what isn't, and having a general idea of how much you are taking in, in what size doses, during the day, tends to go far more toward weight control than calorie counting....
  11:13pm
G:

Ticket Salad Sandwiches are very carby :-) But lots of fiber too...
  11:15pm
steve:

gah, mmm all this talk of butter sandwiches and ticket salad sandwiches is making me hungry
  11:16pm
G:

pre midnight snack
  11:18pm
Julie:

the tickets in the sandwiches get stuck in my teeth, I hate that
  11:19pm
G:

some tickets are printed with soy-based ink. protein!!!
  11:22pm
dan in falls church VA:

Beautiful Sic Alps track. (Hope the Alps never get well. What disease do those poor mountains have anyway?)
  11:24pm
dan in falls church VA:

my mom and I like our peanut butter sandwiches with butter on one piece of bread and peanut butter on the other. am i spozed to be ashamed of that or something?

except these days we use "smart balance buttery spread" instead of butter.
  11:25pm
Holly in NC:

@G - calorie counting is a total waste for me - like you, all about carb control. We seem to have similar metabolisms. Other folks' mileage may vary. I hate when people insist that their way of eating is the one way (esp as mine is clearly the one and only way ;-))
  11:26pm
Thierry:

Speaking of efd live sets, any news from the Notekillers?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
efd:

hey Dan, thanks for checking in! Steve, I believe you're correct the remix is by the Boredoms' Eye.
  11:27pm
Holly in NC:

@Dan in FC -

a) NO! No shame at all!
b) that spread will kill you though! Butter is far healthier, if you can get butter from grass-fed cows.
c) Off soap box, sorry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
efd:

Thierry, haven't heard anything from them lately; I'll see if I can get an update.
  11:29pm
Holly in NC:

I love that Cale is still all about mind f*ckery
  11:31pm
G:

A lot of the trendy dietary info, and even federal govt info, is pro-high-carb, and has been since the 70s...

if you know lower-carb tends to work for you, just keep some general track of carbs. 50-60 grams is a meal, 20-30 is a snack. have three meals a day, and 2-3 snacks. try not to have more than 60 or so grams of carb in a sitting.

you don't have to count exact #s of carb grams. after a few weeks, you know about how many carbs are in the stuff you usually eat, and can keep good enough track in a fuzzy way in your head...

Many thanks to everyone who's pledged so far - it is GREATLY appreciated! I know that not everyone who wants to pledge is able to right now, and I'm also well aware that there are a LOT of people and organizations in need and looking for help, but if you haven't yet made a pledge to WFMU and you're able to throw a few bucks our way we would greatly appreciate it. You can get a t-shirt, premium CD, or the new WFMU War On Christmas CD with your pledge at the appropriate level, and if you pledge $120 or more then you can pay it monthly so you're not laying out a lot of cash right now. Thanks for your support!

@dan in fc - glad I am not the only one who fumble fingers comments using my phone :) snnounvrf? :)
  11:45pm
G:

@Danne: I've always loved bread and the many similar/related foods (pizza, etc etc). I still eat them in moderate amounts. I actually appreciate them more in moderate doses than I used to when eating a whole pizza in fifteen minutes flat. (I came from a family of six kids. We learned to eat fast if we didn't want to get skunked on seconds.)

Supercharger song was great, very toejam and earl, the funkiest 16bit game soundtrack ever! Worth checking out for the crazy doubled up basslines.
  11:47pm
Holly in NC:

Oh dear Dan & Danne , I don't want to hijack efd's board! Google margarine trans fats, PUFA, SAD foods ... and then also google butter grass fed CLA.
In brief, SERIOUSLY ditch the SB and buy either Kerrygold butter, Organic Valley green label pastured butter, or best of all any local butter from happy cows. Tastes better & actually good for you! Really.

@Pine - my sisters' record collection = Anne Murray, the Carpenters, Gordon Lightfoot, & Creedence Gold. Somehow they managed to be teenagers in the 60s with out a single DAMN clue. (Not dissing Creedence)
  11:58pm
dan in falls church VA:

heck, my older siblings grew up in the 60s & early 70s & never even did much in the way of drugs, whatta pack of losers, a few of them smoked weed here and there, big deal. I had to do enough acid & meth &shit to make up for all of them. The onerous responsibilities laid on the youngest.
