Bonjour FxO !6:16am : Bonjour, Pierre. How's the weather bayou?6:33am : cold temperature are coming to Paris, the winter is sending his minions, usually, it's rather rainy, but today we have sun. what about your side of the ocean?6:33am : Good morning Frank. Last minute exam cramming here in the UK. Nice set to help me through it!6:39am : ytseliam: trying to study, eh? Free from WFMU mixing, makes for a full plate.
pierre: Autumn is usually cool, a "tweener", so to say.6:42am : Right, Indian summer in the east coast, I definitively a thing I want to see. And you guys know how to celebrate Halloween properly.6:49am : Great tunes to fight off a cloudy Monday in Vienna. Cheers6:52am : isn't Europe called "all Hallows Eve", everywhere?7:00am : from what I can gather, here it's really only celebrated as an "american holiday," so they call it Halloween. Mostly just an excuse to go to the bar, I think.7:03am : WmG: mostly consuming candy. Where you're at, maybe costumes are universal.7:05am : @WmG: yep, apart from a couple of individual bars having had Halloween parties for about 6 years, Halloween has been more visible here for only about 2 years. And even then, is limited to some shops using it as an excuse to sell kids tat and costumes. And for adults to drink and possibly have fancy dress parties. (We don't even do the candy very much, because we have trick or treating at Easter.)7:07am : Hi Frank! Who does what at Easter? I have a bunny suit!7:09am : Madi,: hey kiddo. with Hefner, it's a "Bunny Suite"7:13am : @Madi: in some Nordic and Slavic countries, kids dress as witches at Easter and go from door to door asking for treats. So that takes care of the annual "trick or treat" and the dressing up. Additionally, May Day is a dress-up holiday, so the only people who tend to dress up for Halloween are some little kids, and Goths who have parties.7:14am : @FxO : we have "Toussaint" indeed, but there is no monster, or fantastic linked to that, it's more of a religous commemoration. It's less pagan7:17am : And then there's "All Hallow's Eve" or "Holy Men's Day" as it's called here, which is very Christian and somber, and basically only commemmorated by placing candles on your relatives' graves.7:18am : Pierre: make a privilege to Morrison'S grave site.
Caryn: thanks for the info. "Goths who have parties", indeed.7:19am : Amazing to have an international party with all of us enjoying the fxo sounds. Columbus day is not popular, but Martin Luther King day has possibilities, we could dress up like him...Wouldn't that be fun?!!7:21am : Maybe Columbus Day celebrations could morph into "Columbo Day", and everyone could dress up like Peter Falk?7:22am : @Caryn (chuckle) where are you?7:23am : @Madi: Finland7:23am : Madi: and going to DC to the MLK statue.
Caryn: Columbus Day? Is that the special way to celebrate Joe Colombo?7:29am : Finland?!! Cool!
The Columbo day idea is awesome, we can have candy cigars and glass eyes. Kinda leaves Kojack out in the cold, though.7:30am : @Madi: well, even though named after Columbo, it could also be a day to celebrate TV sleuths and cops in general. It's not as if there are established rules here.7:32am : yes, Finland is always cold, eh? Caryn & Madi: get on to the upcoming celebrations!7:32am : true, going to Père Lachaise cemetery could possibly be pretty popular.7:35am : @fxo: well, not always. Summers can get hot. But it's apparently going to start snowing this week in the north, so cold weather is ahead.7:39am : Caryn, summers can get hot, what with "heavy water" and all. Sorry, i couldn't refuse my "punnage".7:43am : Pun away, fxo!7:52am : puns used to be easy, especially in the afternoon, but, alas...7:58am : Hello fxo & folks. You are right about All Hallows Eve fxo and six months earlier (or later) is Walpurgis Night.8:05am : @fxo: so you used to be able to produce a whole punnet of puns on demand, but now the numbers have been reduced?8:05am : Walpurgis? I thought that Procol Harum figured in with that.8:06am : my mouth always gets in the way.8:14am : That was Repent Walpurgis or somesuch I believe. Walpugis is named after a canonised woman.8:20am : What is the chorus line to Show-Biz Kids? I can never be sure. Lost Wages?8:24am : sorry, I was listening for the curses.8:43am : tight roberta mix8:48am : Nice webcast, Mr FXO. Finally got a chance to comment.8:50am : thanks 'stro, and you too, radiobelly.8:53am : Nice set, fxo!8:54am : so didn't we have a nice time? The archive will be available in a matter of hours, for a month or so. Liz, Glad you're there. Have a nice week, I'll be back in a week.
