Listener comments!

Matt from Springfield:

The soothing strains of "Klarinettpolka" bring us back!
All Over The MATH! Hi there PGB!

First prize for the first pun!

Matt from Springfield:

After all, puns are fun!
Glad to have you back on!

PGB:

@Matt...I heard you loud and clear on Jim Price's Gomper Mirror today. Yeehah!
  9:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

Ah yes, I heard myself on the Jim Price minute! It's not the length, it's how you use it!
  9:11pm
Matt from Springfield:

As I've gotten into Flickr, I've noticed the WFMU tag and "WFMUish" category -- Jim Price goes back WAY far with the station, but he has also posted tons of old, historical, classic pics on his Flickr account jimmyboyprice. Very worth taking a look:

Greetings PGB and all the listeners.

Incidentally...the Nazis had sickles on some of their own symbols as well.

adam:

pgb, where did you find the image for tonights episode? thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm
PGB:

Yeesh. I can't remember. I've been collecting "album covers" for my shows for a few years. Isn't there some kind of reverse image lookup service from Google? Anybody know?
  9:26pm
Matt from Springfield:

There IS actually...thanks to commenter BadGuyZero, he told me you can drag an image into the Google Images search box and get results! Trying that now...
  9:29pm
Matt from Springfield:

You're welcome PGB! And thank YOU for the program!

thanks pgb and matt, and badguyzero... and thanks again matt!

That's great! A free-to-use image, if I remember.
  9:33pm
Matt from Springfield:

My pleasure adam!

Nate:

Hi PGB. With Judy listening in from Somerset, NJ.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm
PGB:

Hey, Nate! A strong signal, as always. (Thanks, technology!)
  9:44pm
Nate:

We're streaming (flash), actually. I do have an FM radio, but its not hooked up. It's my dad's old KLH monaural set, and the sound is amazing, so I've kept it all these years.
  9:48pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Nate: Sounds like a cool radio, although it would be more difficult to listen to the stereo tracks that are broadcast.

THIS also sounds cool, btw.
  9:50pm
Ike:

The FM signal can be tricky in Somerset anyway. Mono is definitely clearer than stereo there.
  9:52pm
Richard from Venezuela:

My god. This The Cinematic Orchestra's track is mesmerizing.
  9:52pm
Ike:

Yeah, I dig this movie music. I wonder if it's ever been used in any actual movie. It should be.
  9:54pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hey Ike!
Yes, a whole movie's soundtrack! This is like a symphony with all the different movements and moods.
  9:55pm
sudo:

This sort of thing plays me like a fiddle. It sucks having to catch your breath in some crummy popcorn flick just because they got a decent score.

Manhatta is a 1921 film:

Manahatta was the Algonquian word for Manhattan.

BwwwWHAT! If anything that's what high school is for!

Practical use of algebra, if anyone asks you:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
PGB:

Thanks, Matt. I can't be certain that NJ removed the Algebra requirement...just a rumor. But the "educator's" reaction to its demise had me really upset.
  10:07pm
Matt from Springfield:

Excellent theremin PGB! (I can only assume that's you playing :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm
PGB:

Oh yeah.
  10:09pm
Matt from Springfield:

@PGB: The worse part is now basic algebra will be considered "too hard" for students to even attempt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm
PGB:

So the bank puts a mortgage in front of a NJ grad. Can he/she figure out if the monthly payment is correct? Or did the bank make an error in its favor?
  10:15pm
Nate:

Sure he can - there's an app for that.
  10:16pm
Matt from Springfield:

"It's simple - no *doubletalk* - whatever you see on the bill, that's what you pay us. Simple as that!"
  10:17pm
steve:

i do a ton of math in my work, but its been so long since ive been in school, im not even sure which part of math is algebra. is it equations with equal signs in which you solve for x?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
PGB:

I worked out all my mortgage payments myself (okay, in an Excel workbook), and found a few mistakes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm
PGB:

Solving for one or more unknowns...sounds like Algebra. (Or sometimes just defining the relationship between unknowns without necessarily figuring out what they are.)
  10:19pm
Nate:

I's people like you who put tape on their gas caps when they take their cars in for service. Positively un-american!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm

Giving away my secrets, Nate!
  10:22pm
Matt from Springfield:

Heavy kazoo!
  10:23pm
Destroit:

Hello everyone, so nice to be here.
  10:24pm
Nate:

Oof! Sorry! I suppose at that dealership there's a new item on the service interval checklist: "Open fuel door and check for tape on gas cap. If found, remove. Close fuel door".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
PGB:

After I get home, Matt, I'm going to add the link in this playlist to the video. Well done, too. Hello, Destroit!
  10:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hello Destroit!
And thanks PGB, we love any kind of links at FMU!

Keep on tabulatin', Brenda and friends.
  10:30pm
Destroit:

Tom jones related trick that I stole from a comedian: go to a diner with a jukebox...play "what's new pussycat" 8 times, then play any other song, then follow it up with 3 more "what's new pussycats". Pure gold.
  10:31pm
northguineahills:

I was in the other room cleaning, but that Jonny Cave Dance track was epic.
  10:31pm
Destroit:

Hello Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
PGB:

Now I know where I went wrong. I played it seven times then four times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm
PGB:

@northguineahills: Yeah, they told me to "do the cave dance" about a hundred times. I complied.
  10:33pm
Destroit:

You're a dj PGB, you should know how to work a room;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm
PGB:

I can always learn new tricks!
  10:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

Oooh, liking this Ursula 1000.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
PGB:

@Matt: I agree. I'm frugging in the studio.
  10:42pm
Destroit:

Me too Matt, totally workin the room. This is great.
  10:56pm
Gia:

Now I need to hear some Tom Jones...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm
PGB:

@Gia...just a bit late! Sorry!
  10:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

Ahh, recycled riff! It's an energetic, powerful riff though, it's a good one to rip!
  10:58pm
Gia:

Ok...I meant MORE Tom Jones...or Monkees...or Nesmith...yeah Nesmith....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm
PGB:

Dang...I'm moving away from T Jones/Monkees/Nesmith land. Come along!
  11:02pm
Destroit:

Acid dance grinder, when in a pinch!
  11:02pm
Gia:

Orrrr...Istanbul Not Constantinopal ...you know...because we missed Eid dinner...
  11:04pm
Matt from Springfield:

@PGB Well, what are we waiting for!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm
PGB:

That's right. Ramadan is over! Double dang.
  11:08pm
ALC:

Hey PGB! Loving the show, as is the new Eagle Scout! We made it home to tune in during Tom Jones. He wants to submit music to you for your show.

  11:10pm
Matt from Springfield:

Congrats ALC and new Eagle Scout!

Good stuff PGB.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm

@Destroit: thanks! The new bin here at the station is a treasure trove.
  11:15pm
Destroit:

Big crates = big ideas. That's why FMU is do fun.
  11:16pm
ALC:

Thanks, PGB and Matt. (Hey! Mr. Luddite actually figured out how to listen, and comment!)
  11:20pm
ALC:

PS - fwiw, I'd guess Emmanuelle's last name would be pronounced "say-nyea."
  11:22pm
Matt from Springfield:

Only two things are certain: Paris, and taxes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm
PGB:

I need a crowd of folks here in the studio...to coach me on pronunciation.
  11:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

LOVE "Ring Ring"! Good choice of cover for Michael to feature.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm

There's always Irwin's version with the Hoof and Mouth Sinfonia.

The u-umlaut is made by typing Alt+129 using the little numeric keyboard to the right. Or, just replace "Fur" with my "Für" here ;)

Oh yeah. The very easier-to-memorize Windows method. Thanks!
