7:17pm
kat330:
My first time listening, Lamin, and I must say this is great! Can't stay for the duration, but really appreciate -- oh, Adebimpe's the guest?! Hm, I'll make arrangements to listen now for sure! :)
7:18pm
northguineahills:
I've been going through Lamin's back archives on the weekends, and just hit January.
7:19pm
Philo Gristle:
We saw TVOTR in Louisville supporting Cookie.... great show, and so is this one! Howlin'!
7:22pm
Roadkill:
Yeah! Keep the Wolf Howlin'!
7:27pm
robyn:
if i had to think what my parents introduced me to, it would be freedy johnston, u2, lucinda williams, and gram parsons. they weren't all that big on buying older music, for whatever reason. but i can't complain, gram parsons esp. i'm thankful for.
7:29pm
northguineahills:
Weird, I was just reading a review of Vatican Shadow no less then 20 minutes ago!
7:31pm
robyn:
this thai music is awesome, btw.
7:32pm
kat330:
@robyn: I had the great good fortune to hear a far-ranging amount of music as a child. My dad started a radio station when I was 2, and I can't recall a time without music around me.
7:34pm
northguineahills:
Gee, all I had growing up was the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, and Methodist hymns.
7:35pm
Philo Gristle:
My dad had over 100 Elvis LPs.
7:35pm
kat330:
@NGH: Heh, I had the Methodist hymns, too! My fave is "A Mighty Fortress." :)
7:37pm
kat330:
I was fascinated with the word "bulwark." And my mom sang in a gospel trio for a few years, so I learned and sang all those great gospel standards, too.
7:38pm
robyn:
@kat that is pretty cool. i imagine that makes for some good memories. obviously we all made it to wfmu regardless of our musical backgrounds, so if there is a connection between our parents' tastes and our own, it is an obscure one.
7:40pm
robyn:
@Philo Gristle... your real name doesn't happen to be Steven Patrick Morrissey does it..
7:40pm
kat330:
Right, Robyn. Neither of my parents could have understood the diversity of my musical interests.
7:43pm
northguineahills:
My parents grew up (and I was born) in WV, and they were so perplexed that I like (pre-1982) country music. They tried so hard to escape the stereotype, that they couldn't fathom why I would like that "backwards" music.
7:44pm
Philo Gristle:
@robyn I'm happy to say it is not! Buttons Gwinnet inspired my choice of pseudonym.
7:48pm
kat330:
PLEASE do, Tunde!! [come back!]
7:51pm
kat330:
Not 50 shades I'm presuming.
7:51pm
robyn:
seconded. also that story about the journalists was hilarious/terrible.
7:52pm
bloopy:
your show should be 2 hours?!
7:52pm
robyn:
@ngh do your parents listen to that old timey music now? i can understand wanting to get away from the stereotype.
7:53pm
northguineahills:
No, my parents stopped listening to music by the time I got to HS. Now all they listen to is AM talk radio. From one stereotype to another.
7:54pm
Rupture:
fantastic show. BONus points for GRAY!!
7:55pm
robyn:
@ngh LOL. well, yeah. funny.
7:58pm
kat330:
So glad we stumbled into this show! Truly super hour of sound! G'night and take care everyone!
