Listener comments!

  3:09pm
DCE:

Hi Fabio.
  3:12pm
duke:

Failure of life financial aid
  3:12pm
too much coffee:

afternoon, drones!
  3:12pm
BSI:

All these hundreds of years later, and that bass player on Giant Man still cracks me up...
  3:13pm
Mike East:

hmm...somethin' ain't workin' right with Flash.
  3:14pm
DCE:

yeah, I'm down to 20k WiMP. I thought it was just my IT dept fucking with me.
  3:16pm
too much coffee:

...as in, "think of life is a kind of an installment plan... where you just keep paying, and paying, and paying the tuition... and you only hope you can find something to learn from it, after the fact"
  3:16pm
BSI:

128k MP3 has been fine over here.
  3:17pm
ERD:

All James Last induces laughter, but in the best way possible. 128k mp3 working fine here too
  3:18pm
too much coffee:

yup, 128k all happy
  3:19pm
nic:

great love this.......!!!
  3:22pm
Cecile:

those timers in the last piece were messing with my head - I have lots of timers going off during my work day.
  3:24pm
DCE:

Cecile, were you on vacation last week? we missed you.
  3:24pm
ERD:

Mille Plateaux circa late 90s was so refreshing; I remember the original Clicks & Cuts 3LP set was mindblowing back in 2000
  3:26pm
BSI:

Hey now, I was on vacation last week, & had this mental image of THE TRIBE all happy and intact over here while I was messing about in northern Michigan. If Cecile was AWOL, that ruins my whole fake reality thing.
  3:29pm
DCE:

oh yeah, I did notice you not contributing to the stew as well. it was a flavorless gelatin without both of you.
  3:29pm
Mike East:

@BSI - I guess we were missing our Shaman and Chief, but otherwise made it through.
  3:31pm
BSI:

Plugged the iPhone into the rental car & caught some of Scott W's show on monday, it made a long drive much more hallucinogenic...
  3:31pm
Ike:

Ribbit.
  3:32pm
Cecile:

Yes, DCE I was up in the lovely Upper Penisula of Michigan for a while.

BSI, no kidding? Where were you in Northern Michigan?
  3:32pm
Magnum:

Ribbed.
  3:32pm
DCE:

you guys went camping together--how cute!
  3:33pm
adler:

Mike East : does this work for you? wfmu.org...
  3:33pm
Cecile:

if by camping you mean hanging out in the Super 8....
  3:34pm
DCE:

adler, that did nothing for me. Flash comes up but nothing happens.
  3:34pm
Cecile:

Flash is working great for me today, usually I have trouble.
  3:34pm
Mike East:

@Cecile - we were speculating on your whereabouts last week. I guessed the U.P. What do I win?

@adler - I switched over to 128k, but yes, that does work, also. Thanks!
  3:34pm
BSI:

@Cecile: zee Mother in law (based in suburban detroit) is turning 80, so we did the whole Mackinac Island thing, then Sault ste.Marie. Never been up there before... t'was a groove...
  3:36pm
fred von helsing:

I hope they're packin' MY swag :-D
  3:36pm
Mike East:

@DCE - I had the same problem "loading..." Luckily I have a backup...but WinMP sounds like poop.
  3:36pm
Cecile:

Agh, we were only about 200 miles away from each other....!

Mackinac Island was fun, but next time we're going to picnic, ride horsies and avoid the stores and crap.
  3:37pm
Cecile:

Haven't been to the Sault in about, yikes almost 40 years.
  3:39pm
BSI:

Mackinac was definitely a TRIP for this city kid (instinctive fear of horses and no taste for fudge). The Sault was cool; Never experienced "large-scale industrial engineering" as a tourist concept before. Sitting up there watching freighters go thru the canal locks, felt like we were at a baseball game. ...

that's somewhere between really cool and desperately weird...
  3:40pm
Cecile:

@Mike East, hrm. Let me think.
  3:41pm
BSI:

...that sounded snide. Didn't mean it. It was a blast. & outstanding tunes, sir Fabio.
  3:42pm
Cecile:

The locks are mind-blowing. it's crazy how interesting they can be. Did you hit Tahquamenon Falls? I should go back there, one of the nicer parks I've been to.
  3:43pm
Cecile:

you sounded no snottier than me when I talk about going up there, BSI.
  3:43pm
too much coffee:

BSI: reminds me of my first road trip up to Hamburg (through the southern waterfront area) in the early 90s. like, just this huge forest of laoding cranes...
  3:47pm
BSI:

...but the record-shopping in Ann Arbor was a treat (who knew?!!?). It's gonna take ages to hear it all...
  3:48pm
fred von helsing:

Forbidden Planet
  3:49pm
Cecile:

Ann Arbor is a goldmine.
Tell me you went to Wazoo Used Records.
I worked there for a bit in the 80s. It's a great store.
  3:49pm
Cecile:

And the garage sale that is Liberty Music.
  3:51pm
G:

Wazoo was there when I was an undergrad, later 70s. Wonder how far back it goes, name sounds 60s...

My roommate worked at the dreaded Music Mart for awhile...
  3:53pm
BSI:

Wazoo & Encore Records around the corner. Everything from Cosmic Couriers to Penderecki, Conrad Schnitzler, etc... Found those two shops at random & promptly had a lovely heart attack.
  3:53pm
G:

Their website says 1974, I got there in 75...
  4:00pm
tim from champaign:

I also dig Underground Sounds in Ann Arbor. I never make it very far in Encore - too overwhelming. Also, I usually hit my quota with the AA/Ypsi/Detroit bin that's right inside the door at Encore. I always have good luck at Wazoo too. Then there's Flat Black and Circular down the road in East Lansing.
  4:02pm
tim from champaign:

OK, Fabio, let's discuss Da Yoopers. That discussion involves music and the UP.
  4:02pm
john:

Django - great Main title theme! covered amazingly by Joe Preston's Thrones
  4:02pm
BSI:

John Phillip Law IS Sinbad!
  4:03pm
Cecile:

Encore, that's right. I just call it Liberty because that's what it was back in the day.

G: I worked at Discount Records. I understand - just as bad. Wazoo I think started in 69 or 70.
  4:03pm
Cecile:

Let's not, tim. :/
  4:04pm
Cecile:

ha, G. I'm off by a bit...
  4:04pm
Carmichael:

Good afternoon Fab and peoples.
  4:08pm
Cecile:

Carm, I saw that PJ Olsson was kicking off his Rock Camp just as I was leaving Houghton earlier this week...
  4:09pm
nic:

apocalypse 123_really cool
  4:11pm
tim from champaign:

I heard Houghton has a really good brewpub. Did you check it out Cecile?
  4:11pm
Carmichael:

@Cecile: Yes, thanks for reminding me. Knew it was coming up. We have conflicting media types. I hate Facebook, and that's about the only way he communicates.
  4:13pm
Cecile:

Tim, I didn't get there, but drank a lot of cans and drafts of the beer while I was up there. The Keweenaw Brewery is indeed a great place with a great patio.
  4:15pm
Fredericks:

Free at last, Fabio?
  4:15pm
tim from champaign:

Keweenaw Brewing is most excellent. Beer is the only growth industry in Michigan currently!
  4:15pm
Fredericks:

Love it.
  4:17pm
Cecile:

The beer is finally getting to be available in cans. We can get it at one of the liquor stores near us now.
  4:21pm
tim from champaign:

The big dogs like Bells, Founders, New Holland and Dark Horse are available in down state Illinois but the smaller MI breweries aren't yet. I usually bring back a good haul of smaller MI brews for myself and friends whenever I visit the mitten.
  4:26pm
Cecile:

YES
  4:27pm
Cecile:

tim, I am amazed how relatively easy it is to find Bell's and Founders around here. They used to be scarce. Not that I mind.
  4:27pm
BSI:

pullah. pullah.
  4:28pm
DCE:

glad to be hearing this
  4:30pm
hubba:

ah... where's the beef?
  4:38pm
DCE:

so I had to resort to a year-old can of Coors Light last night...last man left standing in the fridge. And I'm still here today.
  4:38pm
northguineahills:

Amazing how easily one can recognize Derek Bailey, even when you're not paying attention in the other room.
  4:39pm
hubba:

Fabio, what is the recording year on the Moat Recordings?
  4:43pm
Mark in DC:

Re: Shiny Beast, Gail Zappa put that out. Available from the Zappa Trust.
  4:43pm
fred von helsing:

someone reads pitchfork ?
  4:46pm
G:

the proofreader? nah, there isn't one
  4:46pm
Mark in DC:

Sorry, I'm seeing that you can order Shiny Beast but no info that its shipping. Sorry bout that.
  4:50pm
Cecile:

$5.45 for shipping.
  5:02pm
Mike East:

I just got all my shit packed up thinking it was 6:00 (quittin' time) and came to terrible realization...
  5:04pm
Some Flash Dude:

Just a note: It looks like the FMU flash stream URL has changed and the link at the top of your playlist should point to:
http://www.wfmu.org/listen-live/
  5:08pm
Some Flash Dude:

... I'm sure Kenzo can help if it's part of a template...
  5:10pm
Carmichael:

Never heard of Wizz Jones. Kinda Fairporty, Robin Williamsony.
  5:18pm
Mike East:

speaking of time, anyone going to see The Clock at lincoln center next month?
  5:18pm
Carmichael:

I just lost home page and audio (128). Back up now, though.
  5:22pm
Ike:

Since Fabio mentions it: Governors Island is really cool, and anybody in NYC who hasn't checked it out should go.
  5:24pm
Listener Dave from Seattle:

I think ET is playing up here this weekend. I think.
  5:24pm
Chris from DC:

Yes. This new Eternal Tapestry is fantastic.
  5:25pm
Chris from DC:

Which is not to say yes they're playing up there Dave. Dunno.
  5:26pm
G:

@Ike: True. I was there maybe 4 or so years ago, when they first made it accessible to the public. The ferry to get there is right next to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal at Whitehall Street...
  5:26pm
Listener Dave from Seattle:

OK
  5:28pm
Arlo:

...where you walk in, you get injected, inspected, detected, infected,
neglected and selected.
  5:29pm
G:

and rejected?
  5:31pm
Arlo:

"Kid, I want
you to go and sit down on that bench that says Group W .... NOW kid!!"
  5:40pm
Carmichael:

".. and I got good and drunk the night before, so I looked and felt my best that day."
  5:46pm
the Sargeant:

  5:48pm

  5:53pm
dale:

  5:54pm
david:

first time ever i saw your face
  5:54pm
Matt from Springfield:

@G: Have you mentioned to her the possibility of reading "Gay Porn for the Blind" on her show? ;)
  5:54pm
Carmichael:

"Where is the Love?"
  5:55pm
dinatekno:

The 1st Time Ever I Saw Your Face is the Roberta Flack song in the cheesy scene....
  5:55pm
G:

I'll do that next time she emails, Matt :-)
  5:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

  5:58pm
