Listener comments!

  12:05pm
kata:

morning Duane ! I don't know why, but I made it to work on time. Atleast I finally get to hear the start of your set !
  12:06pm
Duane:

Hi Kata. You and me both. It looks like we beat everybody else as well. LOL! Glad to have ya!
  12:07pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Right on time! ;)
  12:08pm
paula pc:

more Bullion this week, and this amazing cover? HUZZAH Duane!!!
  12:11pm
paula pc:

oh my i just read about Bob Welch. so sad so horrible
  12:17pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Shouldn't that be "Ride On Time," Jan, for the geeky Black Box reference?
  12:18pm
Duane:

Nice one Jeremy!
  12:21pm
robyn:

nice start duane. another passed great...dang. RIP Bob Welch.
  12:21pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Cheers. Nice Bob Welch. I listened to French Kiss for the first time since the 20th Century yesterday - holds up mostly well! The nasty guitar sound keeps it real. Ahh, XTC. Killin' it.
  12:21pm
Bad Ronald:

XTC "Nearly Africa" remix? - Nice
  12:23pm
Ike:

I like this a lot better than a lot of XTC I've heard. How remixed is this?
  12:23pm
still b/p:

I prayed for a noon sharp start:
Unhinder all trains, Lord, and let Duane restoreth my soul with soul on this awaited Wednesday. Let the herald of the happy remix be delivered reliably and be redeemed in the eyes of management. As Joshua hath done, so let Duane stop the sun and moon if the shit be cut close, and he shall enter Jersey City in triumph and the kingdom of Ken on time. And we his people will say, "Yeaaaahhh, boyeeeee!" and "Yay! unto thee. Amen.

And lo, yo, it was a go.
  12:24pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Not very. English Settlement was my gateway XTC album. I still remember exactly where I was (on the floor of Leo Shapiro's Sarah Lawrence dorm room) when I listened to it for the first time.
  12:26pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Sorry, buried in Illustrator and the free distort filter...
  12:26pm
Mike East:

@still b/p - Does your church congregate? If so, I'm in, yo.
  12:27pm
Duane:

still b/p: Ask and ye shall receive sayeth the lords of the underground! EPIC Man, EPIC!
  12:31pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Nice edit
  12:35pm
KevinfromBayRidge:

@still b/p: Think we can bring back Charlie Heston to orate that!
  12:37pm
still b/p:

Let my DJ go....to the studio!

Why Can't We Live Together is one of those songs that somehow has quadrupled in interest & appeal for me recently. Like the original and re-edits -- even watched the clip of Sade doing it at a big anti-apartheid concert.
  12:39pm
Jeremy Shatan:

This American Gypsy is awesome. How's the rest of the album?
  12:40pm
Duane:

Jeremy: Incredible man. I can't believe it's not reissued yet!
  12:47pm
Jeremy Shatan:

I'll keep an eye out. Meantime, I know Black Heat - but White Heat?
  12:48pm
robyn:

Duane subliminally weighs in on the NBA finals..
  12:53pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

You're rooting for the Heat?
  12:57pm
northguineahills:

This Scenghalighost is a slow banger...
  1:04pm
Jeremy Shatan:

People HATE ON XTC? That's positively anhedonic.
  1:05pm
keith in VT:

Who hates on XTC? I thought they were hateless.
  1:06pm
Jaime Lannister:

Timmy Thomas, on Glade, right? Wonder if that was under KC's TK umbrella? I'd Google it, but it seems so modern and unpleasant. XTC. No hate, But they are tied with Squeeze in the bland category.
  1:09pm
keith in VT:

Which just goes to show there's a line between bland and subtle.
  1:09pm
Duane:

Jaime:: Yes I concur. I love XTC, but many peeps I know definitely put them in the Squeeze, Crowded House category, which is kind of a dis imo!
  1:13pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Ugh - I do hate Crowded House and Squeeze had like one good song (Annie Get Your Gun). So if I like XTC and don't like those it must mean something, right?
  1:15pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Irma - one of the best. Her and Erma Franklin! Did they ever duet?
  1:15pm
Jaime Lannister:

I want no mussels pulled from shells. Crowded House ... I do think Don't Dream It's Over was excellent. But what do I know. Just another opinion in a roiling sea of them. Thanks for the Bob Welch.
  1:16pm
Duane:

Jeremy: That woulda been one helluva album. Erma & Irma..Yikes!!
  1:17pm
Plank:

With Jorma from Hot Tuna and Mission of Bhurma.
  1:17pm
Eli:

How could anybody forget that audition, in the VW.
  1:18pm
Duane:

Plank: HAHAHA!
  1:19pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

OKay, I'll be brave here. XTC is truly great. But I also like some Crowded House, I just don't compare them. Different bands, different aims, different levels of talent...
  1:19pm
northguineahills:

Well, when Cecile goes to the archive, Happy anni Cecile!
  1:19pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Plank! Ha!
  1:20pm
northguineahills:

The crowd noise of this Sylvester track is mixing w/ the crowd noise of the Euro Cup I'm streaming. Fun!
  1:21pm
Opalesque:

That new Paul Williams documentary is really great. Paul Williams is Alive. Showing at Angelika on Houston and Mercer.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkD1Tr4b2vg
  1:21pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Irma, Erma, Jorma and Burma - Love it!
  1:23pm
Eli:

This daybreak track is the shit. One of the best on P&P
  1:24pm
james stacher:

Great show Duane! Loving this romantic set.
  1:25pm
Duane:

Eli: Perfect, right?
  1:25pm
Foreigner:

Why are we consistently denied airplay?
  1:25pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Perfect indeed. Gamble & Huff must've been kicking themselves.
  1:27pm
Duane:

James: Thanx bruh! Good to hear from you ,mayne.
  1:28pm
Starr:

I get played out on Prince sometimes, but I just had a burning desire to hear 'Sign Of The Times' which is a fave. Great show Duane.
  1:28pm
Maria:

I finally got the old radio antenna working and checking in to the airwave b'cast. Sounds Fabulous. Phat sounds on WFMU!!
  1:30pm
keith in VT:

@ Jan. One of the things I most appreciate about 'FMU is it's OK to love bands others might consider uncool. Crowded House and the Finn Bros? Fine by me!
  1:33pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Jerry Butler, what a voice...
  1:33pm
Snake:

Liking Crowded House can ostracize a person here. I requested them once and was flatly told no, and I was denied my Brian Turner Solid Gold Insider's Card for six-months. No Game Room access, either.
  1:38pm
Starr:

Mazerati ... nice play!
  1:39pm
common:

why was this not a hit?
  1:39pm
Patrick:

duane, this track is fire!
  1:40pm
Patrick:

where did you find it?
  1:40pm
Duane:

common: It was hit for THe Time 4 years later
  1:40pm
Duane:

Patrick: RIDIC!
  1:41pm
Duane:

Patrick: I gots connects :)
  1:41pm
common:

Thanks Duane...don't recall.
  1:44pm
Patrick:

damn you and your connects... loving the show this week! hot fire as always!
  1:44pm
Eli:

Oh no you di'in
  1:45pm
Duane:

Patrick: Jokes aside, The Mazerati Demos do pop up on mediafire every once in a while. I'd just keep a google alert handy for em!
  1:45pm
Duane:

Eli: Had to man...Had to
  1:47pm
Eli:

I'm making a late breakfast. Perfect eggywegg jam!
  1:48pm
Patrick:

duane, thanks for the tip... i take back most of the bad things i have said about you.
  1:51pm
Duane:

Patrick: Heheeheh
  1:58pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Did my use of "anhedonic" trigger this number?
  2:16pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

It obviously stopped all of us in our tracks...
  2:18pm
Duane:

Jan: Hahaa. I guess the inner voices/dialogue took over
  2:20pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

I'm just working... So my attention is split.
  2:21pm
Jeremy Shatan:

We're all in the Inner Cycle now...Could you keep this one going for the rest of the show? Thanks!
  2:22pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

I love Hoboken, these folks volunteer to carefully paint the curbs red at the corners where's there's stop signs so that there's a clear view, and people park there anyway...
  2:23pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

...And then they freak out when they get a ticket or a boot...
  2:25pm
Mike East:

Every time I go to Hoboken I wonder if its legal to double park there since everyone does it.
  2:27pm
Duane:

Snake: Brian Turner: "I love Crowded House. I still have my live Crowded House tapes & I listen to it"...Oh Snap!!
  2:27pm
Duane:

And there we have it. Crowded House/and XTC can coexist after all :)
Avatar 2:31pm
BT:

Yeh, wtf Snake. Who has ever predetermined what is cool and not here. Certainly not me....I just put stuff out and let people play it. Or not. Happy to be your whipping boy on your request insecurities (the request wasnt on my show, so have no clue as to why that DJ who turned you down gets that attributed to me...)
  2:33pm
Yvonne:

Wow I like this song
  2:33pm
Eli:

STORMER
  2:33pm
Yvonne:

This "Love Dance" makes me think of Polish wedding parties
  2:34pm
Yvonne:

Only a Polish wedding party would be a lot less cool and people might have questionable dance moves.
  2:34pm
Eli:

No way! I haven't heard this in so long. Awesome. Keep On Movingggg
  2:34pm
Andrew Waterloo:

I tend to only learn enough about what is cool to fit in with society during life and death situations that involve alcohol
  2:35pm
Duane:

Yvonne: Can't say i've been to many:( They sound fun..!
  2:36pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Oh, btw The Vulcans connection was with Jean-Jacques Perrey not Lee Perry...
  2:39pm
Jeremy Shatan:

I DJ'd a Greek wedding party once - brutal!
  2:43pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Awesome remix
  2:45pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

I hope the sound of those crickets where not a comment on our silence!
  2:45pm
Duane:

Jan:: Hahahaaha..no. Intro ambience, :)
  2:50pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Stitt!
  2:55pm
Jeremy Shatan:

The UGLY ONE. RIP
  2:59pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Duane, King of the cool edits!
  3:01pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Totally. Gotta get coffee. See y'all same time next week. If you ever go on www.turntable.fm I'm often in the Funk & Soul Cave (under Murgatroyd). Lots of fun.
  3:01pm
Droll:

I wonder if Duane will give Irwin the stern on-air riot-act reading he got from Ken. Would that be karma, or hazing?
(Three cheers for 'Mercian Shoegazers, Medicine!)
  3:02pm
Duane:

Dope Jeremy! I will definitely check you out. Thanx for listening and comments!
  6:08pm
Cecile:

THANK YOU DUANE! MWAH!
